attention deficiency in a child can come with other issues such as speech delay, hyperactivity, not fully aware of the boundaries etc.....depends on child's age, circumstances, needs..... suggest you read about ADD or ADHD....this is a vast subject with a range of spectrum based on the issues. There is no one solution or medicine for this.....You may have to try out several therapies (dont worry - these are all psychological, motor skill development sort of therapies)......no medicines involved.... i know a doctor in salaam hospital...Dr. Abeer, she is very good at child development cases....she is very expensive though. generally i can suggest this - 1. try a good speech therapist first...if your child has delayed speech....as they learn speech, they grow quick and their attention span increase 2. No TV or phone time. 3. introduce puzzles, books, interactive games.....centerpoint has lot of these types 4. more and more outdoor, walk, swing, play area visits 5. Most importantly, talk to her a lot....keep talking about various things, talk slowly and clearly using small sentences.....but a lot, seriously a lot.....
all the best

@VK, Thanks a lot for the detailed reply.. my child does not have speech delay and also not hyperactive, but is very distracted. Her issue is mainly in focusing and also very slow in doing her work. She needs to be constantly reminded to finish what she is doing, else she will easily drift away to something else

@mother
my serious advice to you is to read more and get some professional help even if you have slight doubt that your child's development (or focus/attention) is not in order.
You will lose some money but at least you will do something when its needed most. These early years wont come back. There is a good reason why there are many professional and early intervention centers exist in this field. Its important to intervene at the right age (as early as you can). More you talk to people/professionals/read blogs, better quipped you are to handle your kids problems.
By you intervening does not mean - you are not letting her enjoy childhood as the post above suggests. Its wrong to think that way. And i wouldn't wait for couple of years to see if the problem has gone away. What if it doesn't go away.
Acknowledge the problem and then help her with proper tools (therapies if needed) and i hope you daughter gets better.

Take a walnut and tape it on the tip of the thump of your child. Any thump would be fine (hands or feet). Better do this in the night when she sleeps. Use microprous tape. Do every night for a week and see the changes.

@ayaz such a lame and naive statement....
By your logic....i suppose, you never visit any doctor for anything? right?
If cold/cough require medical attention then why not reach out to the professionals to address focus/attention issue. Why do you think its not a medical issue?
How can you say a parent (who may only be a first time parent) have solution to all the issues that his/her child is facing? That parent may have no clue at all whats causing the problem and what could be cure of it at all and yet you believe "parents are the best doctors" Come on, lets be real and accept that we (parents) are not experts in everything....Brain development and focus issues are real issues with available solutions in several forms..... and yes i agree parents play a massive role in fixing these kind of issues...... but It only needs acknowledgement and acceptance to the problem.

What is your child age .If her age less than 5 year good time to solve problems.First you should consult a Developmental Pediatrician which is available in Kuwait but rare. All the Ministry hospital has one Developmental Pediatrician. Try to consult Developmental Pediatrician as early as possible, they will do assesment of your child in various aspects according to age. Based on that they will suggest some therapy, by which she will improve her status. Please do not send any therapy before this assesment. And for theray Kuwait it is costly in private centers. Or if you are from Kerala, I know some excellent centers for these childrens, in Governmnet and Private hospital, If you can go India, there are good Developmental Pediatricians and centers available in most part of India. Do not worry now, and do not trust anybodys casual advise. Try to meet the Developmental Pediatricians here or India

@VK Just the walnut is enough without shell. This therapy is called sujok therapy(Korean). The principle is energy flow. Energy flows from higer energy to lower energy areas. Certain organs in the body at times have lower energy, in this case brain. So we take from nature a seed that closely resembles brain i.e. walnut and paste it on the corresponding area of the brain on the hands or feet which is the top part of the thump. To test the efficacy of this therapy, paste a spoon of salt on the middle part of any thump using microorous tape in the night. Next morning you will find salt in your mouth.

Hello Mother,
Now I am sailing in the same boat like your's. I am noticing the same problems with my daughter. She is 7 years now and she is slow and cannot cope up with other children in her school. She has problem in deciding how to behave at what place, She don't have any friends, she cannot involve herself in any conversations and she is very distracted too. I would need your suggestion and support. Did you find a suitable doctor or therapy to assist your child which you can guide me through.
Can any other group member help me on this please.

It is a common problem for the kids who born & brought up in Kuwait. Due to multiple languages speech delay can occur . My personal opinion is to not visit any doctor as may be the problem can be escalated to other level. But again...you need a wise judgement. The only thing is taking care with clear communication at home & not to worry if the kid is less than 5 year old. Also we dont know if any doctor came here after paying huge amount & willing to recover same amount by putting our chap in risk. So always take second opening before giving any medications for such kind of issues.

It can be ADHD but the testing itself (excluding treatment) will cost you u really high - Say around KD 300. Its better to go to India for the treatment as it will not only prove to be cheaper but very trustworthy at the same time.
But before spending so much time and money, just make sure she has the symptoms enough to go for the expensive tests and medication. Examples are as follows :-
1. Very Hyperactive 2. Weak Memory 3. Unorganized 4. Poor Time Mangement 5. Difficulty in taking simple decisions 6. Getting lost(in thoughts) while listening to long conversation 7. Speech Delays
These are just an examples of symptoms and ITS NOT GUARANTEED THAT SHE IS SUFFERING FROM ADHD EVEN IF SHE IS FACING ALL THE ABOVE ISSUE.
I suggest you search about ADHD on the web and check it for urself. May be u get convinced that she is NOT having any such problem.
All the Best
