I think only Emirates allows 55" TV, rest all allow only 49" TV max. However call the airlines and check. New TVs are taxed at 38% on the bill amount, if you don't have the bill, they have their own prices, which of course are Indian prices and are high. Not sure how much tax will be applicable on used TV.

Scorpio,
Your friend is lying. When you have the actual bill, you are taxed as per it, only if you don't have the bill, they look at their price list and a similar model's pricing is considered if that actual model doesn't exist in their list.

We have the flexibility of paying tax in cash or by card. Any currency is accepted, but exchange value will be as per bank. There's a small bank counter at the customs where you can do the payment and a receipt is given.
