Best is invest in Post Office MIS of Senior citizens getting 8.5%. You need to deposit in the name of your parent having more than 60 years old.

First decide, whether you wish to invest for long term or short term. That means whether you want the principal back , for example, within two three years (short term) or after ten years (long term). For short term, go for fixed deposit, post office etc For long term, go for share market, mutual fund, real estate etc I would recommend investing on commercial place for rent, but selection of the property should be done wisely.
