I heard any TV greater than 32" will attract charges. Please check with the airline you are travelling to get a better idea.
In my opinion, Don't buy a TV from Kuwait. Buy one from there. You'll be paying 2-3K more (if at all there is any price difference) but at least you won't have any hassle for warranty. If you already have the TV and it's unused, you should get a decent price for it, if you decide to sell it.

For use in India buy in India - Jolly Roger
Between I know someone who took a TV by airplane and the TV was received with screen damage and the Airline did not compensate for the loss and the TV had to be put in dustbin
Also another case the warranty is said International but it was invalid for India and had to pay good amount for repairs.

How exactly do you say that it will cost 2-3K more? A 55" Samsung Full HD TV costs between Rs. 90,000/- to 1 lakh/- in India. Even if you pay full customs duty, total will come up to Rs. 60,000/- to 70,000/- only.
So if you manage to get your TV to India without damage, you will still have saved Rs. 20,000/- at the minimum.

@JJ- My Bad, I meant 20-30K more. You get warranty. A friend of mine took a TV from Kuwait. 4 months after use, it just conked off. He had to shell out 16.5k to get it repaired. Had it been purchased in India, he would have got a free replacement. (it was some manufacturing defect and had to be replaced. He found it pointless to shell out 20K for a return ticket and get it replaced, so he just dumped it in the can. He paid about 186Kd, from Kuwait while leaving for good.

JJ is right. 55" TV is about 1 lakh. I've done enough research on this. Even if u add the tax it will not exceed 80k if u buy from here. Nothing that goes wrong with these TV's for atleast 2 yrs, looks like someone's friend was really unlucky. And screen damage is Very very rare. Little extra wrapping can ensure your transport is safe. Carry the bill, pay tax (or "adjust" with the customs officer) and enjoy.

If the TV carton is less than 1 meter, you can send it with your luggage. TV's larger than 42" may exceed 1 meter with original carton. Kuwait Airways charges you 35 KD handling charges for all sizes larger than 32". Other airlines like Air Arabia, Jet Airways, etc charges 15 KD extra. TV can be taken free of additional charges in Air Lanka, Emirates (not sure) and some other airlines. All the TV's I carried survived till now, some of them more than 6 years.

@Chikney While your friend may have been very unlucky due to manufacturing defect, it is well-known that LED TVs can last 2-5 years, maybe even longer, depending on how you take care of it.
What many people fail to consider, is that, in India, they MUST buy a voltage stabilizer for the TV - just like they would for a fridge etc. Many of the stories told to me by friends and relatives, their TVs got damaged due to electricity fluctuations or during lightning storms, and they never thought to buy a stabilizer for their TV.

@JJ- Some correction required. Most of the TV's which we find here are designed for 110-270 VAC and they do not require a stabilizer. I think the in-built SMPS can do the voltage regulation. Also the new generation AC's fridge and washing machines (which are known as Inverter type) can work without stabilizer. They work on a second supply with variable voltage and frequency, which is derived from our mains.
