I was asked, once, to imagine an ancient Gurukul (School) the first thing that comes across my mind is the respect and reverence given to the Teacher by the students. When I was asked to imagine a present day school , the picture was completely changed. I found the student-teacher relationship lacked in many classrooms.
In the present generation, the teacher-student relationship has changed tremendously. Technology is one of the main reasons of the change. When some students send and assignment via e-mail, they might forget proper netiquette. Many teachers receive e-mails without salutation or even an attachment but without the text!!! E-mail gives liberty to the students to do things at the 11th hour. Assignments are submitted at the last minute without an apology.
Behaviour of the students had also changed . Students don’t give importance to teachers in the school classroom more, they give more importance is given to private tuition teachers. Many students give flowers and ‘thank- you’ cards on Teacher’s day without having real dedication or sincerity towards them. They give it just for the sake of the day.
Students pass comments on teachers. According to them, some teachers teach without real dedication to the profession and they just come for money. This affects the relation between teachers and students. Students jeer at teachers. How can this be improved?
Solutions are simple. A student should improve his or her manners and learn to respect his/her teachers. He/she should discuss his/her problems and learn to freely communicate with the teacher. Students should listen attentively and obey the teachers and soon the distance will begin to reduce. There are many solutions to improve the relationship but will everybody try to be like that? The future is unpredictable!!!
