Two ancient churches discovered in Failaka Island

Thursday, September 15, 2011

The Department of Antiquities and Museums in the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters discovered two churches on the island of Failaka reports Al Watan daily. The first consists of three large rooms and three entrances and a tomb of a monk with a cross on it, and the second consists of one room, daily reported.

Al Watan reported, quoting the Director of the department Shihab Abdulhamid Shihab, that a study is being conducted on the churches and other monuments that have been discovered on the island which backdate to the early Islamic era. Additionally, an Islamic village established on the island which includes a mosque, two Mihrab were also found besides and a large Islamic castle called Al-Zour Castle. He pointed out that there are monuments dating back to more than 2200 years BC.

Shihab said that the inhabitants of the Kuwaiti coast before Islam were Christian fishermen, who moved to the islands near Kuwait, including the island of Failaka after the spread of Islam. He added that there are also other ancient civilizations on the island including the Macedonian civilization led by Alexander the Great, who called the Island Icarus.

I am really bewildered at the overflowing religious sentiments on this news... Yes you are right God is great , and there should be religious tolerance. But beware... Religious intolerance of minority can also be dangerous, though not as much as religious intolerance of the majority... if its only about churches... What about the ancient Macedonian civilization reminiscences found on the island? They date back to more than 2200 years BC..!! Let us not forget that Love is above everything.. !!

At least now the Muslims and Christians can come closer and towards a better tolerence for Christians in the Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia. The early followers and supporters of Prophet Mohammed PUH were Christians and Jews and they fought against the Pagan Arabs. In Truth we are all brothers worshipping the same God, and to love your brethern is true worship. Lets have a unity day in celebration.

Incredible discovery made this year in the land of Kuwait .. unquestionably to a lost and never-before-seen civilization that predates all .... We would like to know the proper and full conduct for the monuments displayed for people to see ...i suggest they should display it in the scientific center ..really gives me over whelming joy..there is certainly a message..

I am glad in one way tht" The Department of Antiquities and Museums in the National Council for Culture" didnt distroy it or hid the news from Public. In tht way we need to be thankful to them. There are lot of Christians living in luwait , I am sure tht they can increase the visitors to an extend of teh discovery...But ya , if some pictures were there, it would be really nice to see them so old monumenys .. hmmm...
