My First Experience with Kuwait National Museum and Planetarium

National Service Society (NSS) Kuwait conducted a visit on June 6, 2011 to the Kuwait National Museum and Planetarium for the Balasamajam members.

I am the Balasamajam Convener that’s why I was the group leader.

Programme was scheduled by under the guidance of NSS Kuwait Ladies Wing Convener Mrs. Santi Venu Gopal.

All other supports were provided and accompanied by NSS Kuwait Office Bearers Mr. Byju Pillai (President), Mr. Suresh Nair (Secretary) and Mr. Gopakumar (Treasurer)

We were of around 50 members. Some of our parents also came along with us.

The visit was an entirely different experience for us.

We were all drilled with great enthusiasm.

First we visited the Kuwait National Museum.

Kuwait National Museum is situated between the Sief Palace and the Parliament House.

Museum was re-opened in 1986 after the liberation but it was our first visit.

Kuwait National Museum was completely destroyed but the efficient rulers reconstruct very fast and opened in 1986.

From our visit we got an idea about the Kuwait before 1960’s.

There we saw various stones, pots, coins ancient ornaments etc. from different parts of

Kuwait especially from Failakha Island various artifacts and ancient pear diving dhows.

Many photographs were show cased for the monuments of Iraqi invasion.

The only disappointing factor was that their descriptions were given only in Arabic language.

It was as amazing experience for all of us.

Then we went on to the Planetarium.

As we know commonly a Planetarium is a place where we can go to see what the night looks like.

Kuwait Planetarium has a large room with a dome-shaped ceiling and seats.

A special project in this room provides shine images on the domed ceiling and shown the stars and other objects in the night sky.

We got a clear picture about the solar system and Milky Way.

It was a slight scary experience for us.

Then we moved on to the Heritage Museum.

There we saw the ancient Arabic Culture.

All the statues which were put up just seemed as if they has life within them.

They also showed their mode of cattle rearing and ship building.

They also pasteurized their method of shop keeping.

Thus we got an idea of the Kuwait’s ancient civilization.

Overall it was a unique experience for us and our parents.

Take this opportunity on behalf of Balasamajam to convey our sincere gratitude to the Kuwait National Museum authorities and other Staff members for their cooperation.
