“Why did I choose Kuwait..." an expat

Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it! Kuwait is also not different. This is our work place. All the expats owe a lot to this land as they all come and work and settle here peacefully. It is our duty to share our deep sense of affection and gratitude for Kuwait. And this is what the French expat Samah Oueslati has done through her coffee table book titled "Why did I choose Kuwait".

This book is not a city guide that marks out tourist hotspots. It is a coffee table book that captures the love of an expatriate for her adopted homeland.

Samah Oueslati is been living in Kuwait for the past 5 Years and wanted to share her experience living in this wonderful Country through the book. The amazing book “Why did I choose Kuwait..." was born after she has been asked this question so many times.

The book contains poems and facts written by her about Kuwait through the eyes of an expatriate. Her love for Kuwait is stamped on the pages of the book, which is a fitting tribute to Kuwait. The 128 pages book is completely illustrated by talented Kuwaiti photographers and Samah wrote the texts in English. The cover of the book contains the photo which bags the best photography award at KUNA Photography contest.

The poems talk about the old Kuwait, traditions and lifestyle in an emotional way and sometimes in a humorously way too but never negative or sad. The 58 pictures in this book taken by Kuwaiti photographers are stunning and take you deeply in the art of living over here. Going through the book is like reintroducing to Kuwait and Kuwaiti culture and loving every aspect of it. The positive feedback that she received while writing this book gave her the strength to complete it in less than a year. She self-published and printed it in Kuwait.

Born and raised in Paris, Samah graduated in Law from the University of Paris. Signed by Sony Music France at the age of sixteen as a song- writer, singer and music composer, she is a young woman of many talents. As a certified Life Coach and a Pranic Healer, Samah founded Dare2beHer Life coaching to help others achieve their goals. “As a Life coach I help people fulfill their dreams by unlocking doors in their lives and making them feel emotionally and physically better.” Samah told Indiansinkuwait.com. Spreading love and helping people see life from a different perspective is what keeps her going.

Apart from life coaching and Pranic healing, Samah is also an entrepreneur. She is the co founder of a concept store which revolves around custom made leather goods for watch, watch accessories, jewellery and unique gift items.

During the Kuwait’s national celebrations on February 2012, Samah had the opportunity to express herself on the National Kuwaiti private channel "Watan Tv" in their the morning show Sabah al Watan in order to share this unique experience of, living in Kuwait and some of the reasons why she choose this country. She also got a chance to launch this book at Sadu House during the celebrations.

The book “Why did I choose Kuwait..." is available in That Al Salasil bookstore located in Kuwait, The Avenues Mall, phase2 First Floor, Sadu House Museum in Kuwait City and Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah’s museums. The book value is KD 10 and 10% of the total sale of the books will be donated personally to a great charity in Kuwait called "Khair Al Kuwait" to support them in their activities.

The book is meant to be more like an artistic work and is really an expats eye on Kuwait. It is surely a great gift for whoever would like to know more and to remember about Kuwait.

Kuwait is a very good country to be in working or living in. Every one has different view of visualizing. I agree with Born in Kuwait what ever he has said is correct but he has to get a big picture of this beautiful country we living (KUWAIT). The people here are good and respectful. We have to appreciate the Kuwaiti people for every thing they are doing. I have been my self in very bad situation with one of the Kuwaiti but today i am out of it and living like one of the good citizen. You get jobs if you are willing to do job in Kuwait. Hard work is required for all pleasure life.
I have been to most part of the world but did not find as freedom as Kuwait. The life is expensive in Kuwait but secured. I have seen females walking on the streets in mid night but they are freely walking with out anyone to chase or humor them. It is all upon us to decide. Water, Electricity, food quality is very good. All my life spent in Kuwait I have never felt like alone. I a born in Kuwait and I am from India. Kuwait Live long for all of us.

Dear Samah,
Congrats on your work...InshaAllah I will get me a copy soon.I myself am born and raised in Kuwait.I for one love this country.I know what expats face here. But the good clearly outweighs the bad.All Kuwaitis are not ill tempered. There are some real good people too and this is the picture in any country. The jobs pay well here.Quality of life is much better than my home country.I Am what I am bcoz. of Kuwait.I may be Indian but my mindset is definitely Kuwaiti. We should learn to imbibe the culture we live in and appreciate its goodness rather than focussing only on it's drawbacks.Remember every coin has two sides,it depends which side you pick.

My Father is living and working in kuwait for the last 32 years and he send me a visit visa and then I also got good job in Kuwait and I also got visa and exit and return back to kuwait and I had also paid my all government fee and when it time to get residency they simple refuse just because my country was banned including some other countries. I dont know why they have taken money if they have banned my country. Any how I am in UAE now a days and feeling 100 time good as compare to kuwait

I havent read the book ,planning to buy and read soon. May be the author choosen Kuwait but in many of expats cases they reached here searching for their livelihood.I know they dont get respect they deserved in Ministries or wherever they need to deal with local population. We cant help their mindset. But my suggestion is that learn basic Arabic and deal with them in professional manner. Dont show too much respect ..talk the subject only. I have one more suggestion to Indians ..Please dress neatly with some dress sense. Just ignore the arrogant people because God is going to punish all arrogants. There are many positive aspects as well like Medical facilities , Good saving comapre to India (not true ion all cases) , Religious facilities for Muslims ..etc.

Dear Murugan, P.S, Rafiq thank you very much for your words of support. Much appreciated and May God Bless you.

Dear Born in Kuwait, i don't know if you are born in Kuwait or not but it seems you are going through though times. What i can pre sent from what you are writing is that you aren't satisfied being in Kuwait. I do understand it, and know all the things you are talking about ( money, respect, administration issues...) but these situations could have happened to you in many other countries. So i'm not sure that "blaming" Kuwait for what is happening to you will give you any solutions. Negative thinking brings only negative situations.
You should make a step out of this situation and get back to the place you feel happy in, wherever it may be! If you are not happy with something then CHANGE IT!
I chose to look at the positive sides of every situation and this is how i take my life. I am grateful towards God's blessings and I wish you to find the best Life for you.
Bless you,
Samah

Hey i dont know about your 5 year experience in kuwait but my 22 Years experience in kuwait is very bad. I still need a sponsor to live in this country. There is no difference between a new person arriving kuwait and me. I cannot travel to any country more than 6 months. I cannot travel in this country as freely as the local althoug knowing all the places in kuwait. I feel i dont have freedom in this country. I think the respect what we deserve to get is not there in this country. We have no value in any ministries. If we go to the bank to deosit money in few thoysand they suspect us from where we got this money. You need to struggle to get drivers license. You need guranterrs to get loans. You need to strugle for getting release from companies. If want to in this country without work you need to buy akama for kd 600. All this counts. Anywhere you go the locals treat you as non humans. And dear Samah if you really want to see the real part of this country please feel free to contact me and then you will change your books name to something opposite to this.

Dear Viruna,
Thank you very much for your beautiful words, much appreciated.

Dear Karmani,
I would invite you to "not judge a book from its cover" as the saying goes.
I surely don't know about your personal story and what makes you think the measure of the years only could be a proof of how well you know a culture or a country. Nevertheless I would recommend you to be more open mind and warm hearted when it comes to judge others.
May God bless you.

Dont know how the book would be and how well it is written. But in 5yrs time she spent in Kuwait you cannot talk about culture and all ... people spend decades learning that and there she comes talking about it ...
