IMWA Convenes Educational Meet 2012 |

Indian Muslim Welfare Association, IMWA convened an EDUCATIONAL MEET on 18th May 2012 at Salmiya Indian Model School. Mr. Nadeem Parker did excellent compering throughout the program. The hall was full to capacity with the enthusiastic students along with their parents, teachers, participating school principals and IMWA members. The purpose of the meet was to promote educational activities, counseling for career development and awareness of current affairs to benefit the Indian students.
The Charge de affairs of Indian Embassy Mr. Vidhu Nair graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He was impressed by IMWA’s aspirations to improve education standards.
The event started with recitation of the holy Quran by Master Mohammad Mustafa, translated by Miss Sumayya Parveen. The event was declared open by the convener Mr. Jawaid Anwar, who briefed the program to the audience and explained rules of the debate etc to the participants. He also introduced the eminent judges of the debate contest. By organizing such events, he stressed that their aim is to give opportunity of unbiased deliberations amongst young minds to help making of future society.
First Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed conducted an interactive workshop on career development with active participation of about hundred plus students and audience who had registered online. His presentation was based on experts’ research and proven theories. It was the first of its kind for many students which gave them an idea how to choose an ideal profession.
This was followed by the debate competition. Ten schools sent in two talented contestants each to participate in debate on the topic “Whether the current education system is creating a value based society or not” one student for the motion and the other, against.
A panel of four eminent adjudicators, Dr. Mirza Umair Beg from KISR, Dr. Sabiha Bilgrami from Kuwait University, Eng. Tareq Aziz from KOC, and Mr. Xavier Muthu from U.S. Department of Commerce evaluated the participants’ performance simultaneously.
The evaluation was processed online with the data entered by the judges transmitted live to the moderators, Mr. Mohammad Khalid, IT expert & Eng. Mohammad Zahid.
The results were declared immediately upon receiving the final points from the judges.
The Debate contest was tough but fully enjoyed by all present. Self confidence, presentation skills, body language and performance on stage revealed the abundant talent existing in our young children.
Next, the Essay writing competition was conducted, which was participated by more than hundred students who had registered online on IMWA website. Separate topics for each batch were given on the spot. The names of the winners will be posted shortly on IMWA website (www.imwakuwait.org).
IMWA President Mr. Mohammed Manshauddin addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech highlighting the need for such events. A phrase from his speech was “knowledge without its practice is a fruitless venture” summed up beautifully. This was followed by a brief speech by the Chief Guest, Charge de Affairs of Indian Embassy, Mr. Vidhu Nair. He was highly impressed by the debate of the talented students and appreciated IMWA for its efforts in organizing such a wonderful Educational Meet. He urged other associations also to follow the footsteps of IMWA and apart from social programs, organize such educational events in order to benefit the students.
Prizes were given to the debate winners by the Chief Guest and IMWA EC members joined him in felicitation of the Principals of the participating Schools for their contribution in providing Quality Education to the Indian Students in Kuwait. A crystal memento and a book titled "Scientific Wonders on the Earth & in Space" were presented to the Principals and the Judges were presented with the book as a token of appreciation.
Master Himag Bhavadeep Vaidya student of Indian Education School (Bhavans) was awarded the first prize for the debate contest while Miss Bhakti Priya from Gulf Indian School was awarded the first runner-up and Master Rahul Raju from Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School (FAIPS) was a close second runner-up. Indian Educational School (Bhavans) team of Master Himag Bhavadeep Vaidya and Master Akhil Govind who jointly scored the highest points in the debate competition and walked away with the best School Award of “IMWA EDUMEET 2012 TROPHY” for their excellent performance. Miss Sarah Iftakhar Ahmad and Miss Suha Manshauddin of IMWA Talent team were awarded consolation prizes.
The debate winners were given attractive gifts such as IPAD, IPOD-touch, Cross pen set, Crystal Memento, etc. whereas the participants were given participation certificates.
The program was concluded by vote of thanks offered by the IMWA Secretary Mr. Israr Ahmed. He thanked the Chief Guest, participants, school principals, the Sponsors and IMWA members for attending the event.
