The Art of Cooking |

A few months earlier, I and my sister wanted to learn how to bake. One of my mom’s close friend, Mrs.Lakshmi Suresh, who has received countless certificates for the art of cooking, introduced ‘Teen Cuizine’ to us and a few others with the help of her friend Mrs.Mary.
For four days from 10 am to 12 noon, we were getting introduced to the kitchen. It was not all that easy, but trust me we had loads of fun learning how to cook. It was an altogether a new and fascinating experience.
We did 4 recipes per day, making 12 in total. Among that we learnt how to make mini pizzas, salads, macaroni, brownies, sugar cookies, muffins, milk shakes and much more. After being shown how to do it, we tried it out ourselves, making quite a mess and creating chaos, but eventually getting it right! My favorite recipes were the Macaroni salad and the Gooey Chocolate Brownie. Both of the dishes were absolutely scrumptious. Oh I’m forgetting the Strawberry Mousse which tasted like heaven! But the best of all was the sugar cookies, which practically MELTED in our mouths!! We also had the maximum fun making it. The kitchen was totally upside down and there was cookies batter everywhere (even though it remained incredibly delicious). Aunty had left us alone in the kitchen for a few minutes, as she had to go and buy some ingredients, and in those few minutes….when we creamed the butter and sugar together, it went flying all over the place…..we made a complete MESS!!!! This was really a funny situation, though aunty got mad at us. But the end result definitely tasted awesome! Because I loved it so much, here’s the recipe for all you people:
Ingredients-
• 6 cups flour
• 3 tsp baking powder
• 2 cups unsalted butter
• 2 cups sugar(white granulated)
• 2 eggs
• 2 tsp vanilla essence or desired flavoring(almond’s are my favorite)
• 1 tsp salt
Instructions-
1. Cream butter and sugar, wait till it gets fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Mix the dry ingredients & add little at a time to the butter mixture. Mix until flour is completely incorporated and the dough comes together.
2. Chill for 1 or 2 hours.
3. Roll to desired thickness and cut to desired shapes (heart looks pretty). Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 350 degree F (176 degree C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until it’s just beginning to turn brown at the edges (This recipe can make up to 5 dozen 3” cookies).
4. Oh! And don’t forget to decorate your cookies with chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, peppermint, etc. before eating, making it more delicious for you to see & eat!!!!!
After all the hard work we put in each day, we would come out to gobble up everything we had prepared and THAT was the best part of the day! Hogging delicious stuff is really enjoyable, isn’t it! At the end of the day we would realize that we had done something really worthwhile.
I will treasure these days of wonderful learning experiences forever. Of course an added advantage is now I’m able to give a helping hand to my mother in the kitchen with confidence.
P.S. – The pictures of the delicious food items seen below were made by an enthusiastic batch of Teen Cuizine! (This included me). There’s also a group photo of the batch!

My Experience with IIK
I moved to Q8 5years ago, no frnds no fly & I knw life wasn’t going to be easy. I decided to strt wrkng & browsed thru every newspaper posting CV on job sites but few call backs. Thn I hrd abt IIK & immediately regstrd my email & got a classified postd for a job & the calls strted pouring in. I was happy as it got me motivtd to apply to mre companies helping me brush my skills for an interview. IIK soon became part of my evryday life. I visited the site not only for a job or news but for its classifieds and stories. The forums hlpd me refer to probs not only wat I was facing but helpd me understand wat ppl go thru everyday. I got free consultn/responses to many of my queries some silly othrs very helpful and got to post my experiences/suggestions too with ppl’s queries. I lrnt more about plcs to visit, dine outs, evnts & the various assoctns. IIK was a refrnce to everything - exchnge rate, sending gifts etc. IIK has grwn not only in the no of readers & a new section for kids but also strting an open house for its oppressed citizens. IIK has been supportive in encouraging people of all ages to take part in various writing & drawing skills be it on republic day, Valentine’s Day or a contest on a cruise liner. I want to wish IIK all the very best in bringing not only awareness (through its various columns) among people of various communities but also teaching us to share in the culture, heritage, brotherhood & friendship of India. Can’t wait to see what IIK comes out next with
