IPL- Informative or Destructive?

As we come to the end of the exciting season-5 of IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders emerging as the winners of 2012 –IPL. Let us now think about this crucial question i.e. should there be a season -6 of IPL.As I have mentioned a few advantages and disadvantages of this game.

IPL Is Informative

1. IPL has become a medium to give exposure to the talents of budding cricketers.

2. They gain an opportunity to play with the experienced foreign and local players which enables them to improve their skills.

3. It gives them an opportunity to gain money and fame.

4. It gives young players a career and a source of living.

5. It has introduced the children with the new word “Auction” and “Bidding”, which every child today is familiar with.

6. The game has made the children familiar with the names of a few billionaires back in India by relating their names as the owners of the IPL teams.

7. Children have learnt the rules of the games very well due to the consecutive IPL sessions.

8. Many children are attracted to this sport and hence it serves as an exercise to the kids.

9. It has become a family event and helps us to get all the family members together to spend some quality time with each other away from their busy schedules.

10. It has become a source of entertainment and outing.

11. It helps in building International Unity.

IPL Is Destructive

1. It is no longer a fair game. It is a form of gambling and is all about money. It is damaging our country’s economy. As money is not used for the development of the country.

2. It has harmed the spirit of the game as people play for money and not for joy.

3. Lots of money is wasted in organizing the game which can be used to develop the country instead.The income is not resourceful as it is not going to the government but it is going to other sources, which is not going to benefit our countries economy.

4. It is no longer a game between players but a fight between politicians and business tycoons to gain more power and popularity.

5. The rich escape from paying taxes by the means of IPL.

6. It is boosting corruption.

7. It is a waste of time as the results are pre-planned earlier do to unfair means.

8. We can’t see quality cricket as sportsmen stay away from the countries team and prefer to play in IPL as it fetches more money in a short period of time.

9. The cricketers no longer play for their fans but for money.

10. IPL Cricket is a commercial event now not a sporting event.

11. The money spent on cheer leaders and loud music is a huge waste and a distraction and causes noise pollution.

12. It has affected the work quality of adults and children badly as people are bitterly addicted to it.

13. It has increased the power consumption of common man as people get addicted to it and don’t want to miss even a ball also, whereas other programs are just for short durations and don’t go on for hours.

14. It is no longer a game with patriotic feeling rather a game played for business tycoons.

15. It promotes Match Fixing.

16. It also promotes Betting.

My sincere opinion is it has to be banned as a game is for fun and not for promoting corruption. Games are a source of exercise and entertainment and it should remain the same.

You have few valid points. But the solution is too harsh and not very progressive. When a person has problems in few parts of his body, we do not kill the person. We treat those parts and make the person's life better. Black money and other problems exist in all sectors. Why single out only IPL. Making money is not a crime. That's what we all are doing. IPL needs better rules and much better governance. India has not ruled any other sector the way it rules cricket.
