Vacations in Kuwait :- A Different Perspective
Posted on 6/27/2012
It is the vacation time in Kuwait. Due to the extreme heat outside, schools all over Kuwait have been given summer holidays. Children are enjoying the free time they are getting by travelling to exotic places around the world and most importantly to our motherland India. There are families who prefer to stay here in Kuwait and send their children to summer camps organized by schools and other organizations. But there are families in Kuwait who can’t afford tickets to go to India or those who stay back due to constrains of their workplaces. What are the means of enjoyment for their children?

In Kuwait, especially during July, the temperatures reach their peak. It is not possible for children to step outside their homes until it is around 4:30-5:00 pm. That is the only time they can play outside. Also in Kuwait, there are not enough open grounds for children to play in. The only place they get to play is the parking lots near the apartments, which is sometimes restricted due to the cars parked in the area. Even the Salmiya garden becomes barren by July with only a few trees here and there providing shade. The adverse effects of playing in the hot sun, which include dehydration, rashes and fatigue, are known to all.

Parents, due to their workloads, do not have enough time to spend with their child. If their parents are not well off, they cannot roam around in malls, go for luxurious summer camps or go for activities like paint ball, Aqua Park or other such places. The only thing they have is playing outside with their friends.

We may have seen many people going to amazing places and sharing photos about their trips. We seldom notice those children who are financially poor to even go to places in Kuwait. It is the reality. Think about these people. When our favorite trips are cancelled for one year due to some reason, we throw tantrums at our parents. Think about these children who have not seen their motherland for years. Help them, by giving them a chance to know about their motherland, visit their grandparents and the birth place of their parents. I know lot of families who offer free tickets for the maids and their families, who have been working here for a long time. Schools, private organizations and individuals staying back in Kuwait can organize summer camps at low rates, so that more of such children can be a part of it. Another idea I would like to suggest is to use the pocket money of the children and the money they get during festivals to help these needy children in any way they can. When you help someone, and when you see their happiness then receive you too will feel a lot happier.

Next time, whenever you plan a trip to go to other countries, consider yourself lucky. For there are many waiting to see their motherland, India among us. Let us all work together to help these children in Kuwait, to give them a better life and a chance to visit our beautiful motherland India.
