Karnataka CM DV Sadanand Gowda met Nitin Gadkari today and submitted his resignation to the party chief. Gadkari told media that Gowda's resignation has been accepted and Jagadish Shettar will replace him."Keeping in mind the unity of the party and being a dedicated party worker, Sadananda Gowda has resigned, I have accepted," Nitin Gadkari told reporters in New Delhi.
Gowda will now submit his resignation to the Karnataka Governor HR Bharadwaj.
The BJP's core group met on Saturday to approve party president Nitin Gadkari's strategy of resolving the Karnataka crisis by replacing chief minister DV Sadanand Gowda with Jagadish Shettar.
BJP sources say that besides the change in guard, finality hasn't been given to other decisions. Some blueprints of a post-Gowda formula have, however, emerged.
One plan is to make Gowda, a Vokkaliga, party president in Karnataka and make backward Kuruba leader Eshwarappa (the present state president) the deputy chief minister.
Another plan is to let Eshwarappa remain party president and make Vokkaliga leader R Ashok the deputy chief minister, while according Gowda "honourable rehabilitation
The party brass is convinced that keeping former chief minister and Lingayat strongman BS Yeddyurappa in good humour is crucial for the next poll. |
