Kuwait Kerala Sunni Muslim Council, a socio-cultural organization established in Kuwait for more than a decade ago, also one of the 15 member of associations of The Federation of Indian Muslim Associations- (FIMA) conducted classes on “Spiritual awareness of Muslims” during the holy month of Ramzan. Kutty Faizi welcomed the guests. The classes were held on 13th July, 2012 at the residence of Badusha, a senior member of Sunni Council immediately after the Friday Jumaa Prayer in Salmiya.
The classes were attended by about 100 members of KKSMC. The speakers, Ismail Hudaiwi, KKSMC Secretary and a graduate of “Huda Islamic University” at Chemmad, Malappuram District of Kerala gave key note address along with Sayyid Ghalib Al-Mashoor Thangal, a scholar and former researcher of Islamic studies at Islamic Nasr Institute – Cairo (a subsidiary of Al-Azhar University) also delivered about the advantage of keeping live during the month of Ramzan. Both scholars asked the audience “Why Do Muslims Fast in Ramadan”?. FASTING in the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. Muslims observe the fast happily in obedience to Allah and to seek His reward. Ramadan is a great chance for Muslims to be united and maintain their faith. It teaches Muslims spiritual discipline, self-control, patience, and perseverance.
Muslims fast in order to obey the order of Allah, their Creator. Being All-Wise and All-Knowing, He alone knows what ails humans and what benefits them. As Muslims we believe that Allah, Who created us has provided for our spiritual welfare even as Allah has provided for our physical needs. Allah did so by sending prophets and messengers who guided us unto the straight path, and by adhering to it, humans can realize their full humanity and attain ultimate felicity in this world and the next. Fasting in Ramadan, together with prayer, Zakah and pilgrimage to Makkah, is part of a comprehensive program whose purpose is to inculcate in humans true consciousness of their mission in life as Allah 's servants and develop the right attitude.
Among the many benefits of fasting are the following:
1) It deepens our spiritual awareness by inculcating God-consciousness.
2) It helps our bodies to recuperate and renew; it is comparable to the state of hibernation that all creatures in nature go through.
3) It helps us train in patience.
4) It creates empathy for the poor who are starving.
5) The month of Ramadan gives us a month-long training course to enable us to break free of our bad habits and develop new positive habits.
6) Through fasting we discover true spiritual identity, for too often our entanglements in the physical cares and concerns make us forget our true destiny: We proceed from Allah and we are ever journeying unto Him.
The willpower they develop in that one month helps them to continue doing the right thing and avoiding the wrong throughout the year. They find the fast such an effective method of spiritual training and of achieving closeness with their creator that many Muslims also keep some additional, optional fasts on other days of the year. They eat an early breakfast before dawn and a late dinner after sunset. From dawn to sunset they would have no food or drink; they would also refrain from sexual activity. Whereas the baser selves regularly call for these things, Muslims train themselves with the help of Allah to fulfill their natural needs in the time and manner that Allah declared suitable for human dignity and well being.
Monthly “ZIKR HALQA” was also convened at the premises. Shamsuddin Moulavi, the Convenor of Daawa cell made a short speech during the event. The classes were adjourned with a tasty lunch followed by Duaa by Sayyid Ghalib Thangal, the Organizing Secretary of KKSMC. Marakkar kutty, the city Halqa convenor arranged special transportation for the attendees.
