The finals of Gulf Consult summer league was played last Friday at Sulaibiya turf grounds and was won by Al Bader Shipping Company quite convincingly. Batting first after winning the toss Al Bader Shipping Company put up a total of 158 losing 8 wickets in the bargain but not before there was a flutter or two at the start of the innings. The captain Aejaz Shaikh was shown the way to pavilion as early as the 2nd over of their innings, immediately after which Asif Sibhai and Arshad were picked up in quick succession. Then came Mohsin (40) who not only steadied the innings of Al Bader but also partnered in two partnerships of over 40 runs in the middle with Ismail (24) and Hassan (46) which boosted the total of Al Bader Shipping Company to 158. Among the bowlers of Shaheen Air, Richard was the most successful by claiming 3 wickets in the top of the innings.
Shaheen Air commenced their innings with their regular openers and soon looked well settled to chase down the total by scoring over 10 an over in the first 3 overs but soon lost momentum after loosing their first wicket. There after there was no intent shown by any of the following batsman to score the targeted runs and soon collapsed their innings at 84 in total thereby conceding a 74 run victory to Al Bader Shipping Company. All the 5 bowlers of Al Bader have picked up a couple of wickets each to seal the victory for their team.
In another Final Horizon cricket club bagged the coveted Gulf Consult Classic league T-20 trophy by overcoming the stiff challenge of KRH cricket team in a well contested final played at Kuwait Cricket’s Sulaibiya ground. The much experienced Horizon used all the weapons in their armory to snatch a nail biting 5 runs victory.
Batting first, Horizon posted a challenging total of 145 runs in 20 overs. Asif & Sabeer opened the innings and both of them gave a flying start with Asif who batted brilliantly scored a scintillating 57 runs. Sabeer scored a polished 22 while Arshad 21 runs & Imran 22 runs provided the much needed support for Horizon. Darwin & Aneesh were the most successful bowlers for KRH by claiming 2 wickets each.
KRH replied well and midway were in a strong position by scoring 89 runs in 13 overs. Captain Bhaskar played an anchor role and despite being injured scored a painstaking 27 runs. It was at this juncture that the Horizon spinners who bowled a nagging line had the KRH batsmen in their back foot. Needing to score at an average of 7 runs an over, KRH batsmen collapsed in the run chase and were bowled out for 140 runs. All rounder Aneesh who blasted a magnificent 36 runs with 3 huge sixes in 18 deliveries was the top scorer for KRH. Asif again came to the rescue for Horizon by taking 3 for 19 while Imran(Sr) also bowled well to have 3 for 19. Zakharia Kazi, though wicket less contained the KRH batsmen while Arshad also took 2 wickets for 24 runs.
Asad Baig, Director General, Kuwait cricket alongwith Mahmoud Abdullah the vice Chairman of KC EXCO presented the winning trophy to Horizon Captain Arshad while the runner up trophy was presented to KRH skipper Bhasker by Riaz Choudhury, Director, Umpiring panel.
