A computer is a general purpose device which can be programmed to carry out a finite set of arithmetic or logical operations. It comes in handy for us when we want to have infinite wisdom about a particular subject. The essential point of a computer is to implement an idea. The first electronic digital computers were developed between 1940 and 1945 in the UK and US. Originally, they were the size of a large room, consuming as much as power as several hundred modern personal computers (PC's). In this era mechanical analog computers were used for military applications .the computer got its name from the word,’ compute' meaning,'calculation'.The first device used for calculation was the Abascus. Then came the Napier's Bone made by a scientist called John Napier. After this came the Pascaline designed by scientist Blaise Pascal. Then comes the Analytical Engine by Charles Babbage .Charles Babbage is known as the Father of the Computer, since he gave the future scientists an idea of how the computer was to be created. Below is a list showing the generations of the computer:
1st Generation:
ENIAC was the first generation computer .It was made of vacuum tubes/valves. The full form of ENIAC is Electronic Numeric Integrator and Calculator.
2nd Generation:
UNI VAC was the second generation computer and the first automatic computer .It was usually a type of transmitter. The full form of UNI VAC is Universal Automatic Computer. Its prices were made fixed so that ordinary people could also buy them.
3rd Generation:
The third generation computers were called I-C Chips, short for Integrated Circuit Chips. In this period of time, it came out in the form of chips.
4th Generation:
4th generation computers were Micro Processors and came into market in the form of the Desktop, Laptop, Palmtop and much more.
and finally,
5TH Generation:
In the fifth generation computers are being manufactured by adding A - I which stands for Artificial Intelligence.
The computer uses the binary language, and so it came to be known as the language of the computer.
Today the idea of a life without the invention of the computer is most impossible to think of .We really must be very thankful to Mr. Charles Babbage after all!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........
