The 15th of August 1947 is a golden day engraved in the history of India. On this day, India got independence from the British rule. For the first time, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort on this day. Now, it is celebrated as our Independence Day all over the country every year. It is a National festival. This historic day is celebrated in Delhi in a special way. Our Prime Minister unfurls the National Flag at the Red Fort. The Prime Minister also delivers a speech on this occasion. Thousands of people go to the Red Fort on this day to witness the flag hoisting ceremony. This day is celebrated with great pomp and show in all the State Capitals and districts.
It is a day worth a celebration. When we celebrate it by hoisting the flag, playing the National Anthem with fervor, distributing sweets, we sail back into the past to remember and pay homage to the builders of our nation. It was indeed a Himalayan task for every Indian those days to fight against the powerful giants – the British rulers. We must not allow those hard times and struggles fade away from our memories. Hence, it is befitting for us to celebrate such National festivals and recall the heroic deeds of our National heroes. Right from Mahatma Gandhi to the local patriotic leaders we must owe our gratitude.
We are the privileged lot to have been in free India. We are able to breathe the fresh free air since our birth. Today we have come a long way in the path of free India. We have proved ourselves worthy of freedom. We are considered the largest democracy in the world. But are we blind to the black clouds surrounding us? Are we very successful in using our freedom in the right manner? If so, why should there be so many bomb blasts, killings, attacks on government offices, cases against so many politicians and so many unstable governments?
Well, what can a student do at this juncture? As students, we must keep observing things around us. We will have our own day to work for our Nation. Let us do our duty of preparing ourselves to be well educated citizens of tomorrow. Let us do our duty sincerely and study hard to achieve our goals. Today we require youngsters with a lot of knowledge and energy to fight against corruption and lead India to a bright future.
