Ranni Pravasi Sangam Celebrated 11th anniversary & 10th Onam |

The ‘Ranni Pravasi Sangam’ –a social and cultural association of the Keralites non-residents from Ranni, Kerala in Kuwait-held its 11th anniversary and Onam celebrations the traditional,most important colorful festival of Keralites, at the Indian Central School Auditorium.The function was inaugurated by Vidhu P.Nair Deputy chief of Mission,Indian Embassy , with an inaugural address followed by lighting the traditional Kerala Lamp .
The President of the association Mr.Jacob Mathew presided over the meeting and felicitation speeches were delivered by Benny Puthenpurackal ,President Ranny Block Panchayath , Banyameen the Bahrin based pravasi novelist and M.V.Simon, president Ranny college alumni association. Roy Kaithavana welcome the gathering and Alice varughese Kachanathu offered the vote of thanks. Manoj Mavelil the treasurer and Jiji Chaluparambil,the general convener of the function presented the mementos to the distinguished guests of the day.
The function was also attended by officials of various malayali organizations in Kuwait. Awards were distributed to honour students in Kuwait belonging to Ranni taluk, those who scored the highest in Std X and X11 examinations in March 2012.
The second part of the function was the cultural programes, where many entertainment programmes such as’Thiruvathira’-girls in typical Keralite dress dancing around the traditional brass lamp-, classical Dances, the Maveli’s visit from exile, presented by various groups and individuals representing different village panchayaths of the Ranny taluk.
Earlier a competition was held for floral designing (Athapoovideel) a symbolic way to create a flower path to invite and honor the Mahabali the legend behind the Onam.
The scrumptions ‘Onasaddiya’ Onam feast which was arranged in typical Kerala style ,crowning the ‘Malanadu Mannan & Manka’, and the Gana mela (musical concert) were held as part of the function.
