Turkey Delights

When my father came from his office he told us that we were going to Turkey I was excited and happy to know that. I couldn’t wait to reach Turkey. It took us about 4 to 5 hours to reach Turkey. We landed at Attathurk airport Istanbul. We started our tour in Sultahnhmet, Istanbul. At first we visited an ancient water storage chamber Basilica Cistern. The size of the chamber is more than a football ground in length; it was used for storing 100,000,000 liters of water. In fact it look like a palace with beautiful co-pillars .It is huge and beautiful. At evening we took pudding from Leles Pudding shop, it was very yummy, mouthwatering. I went in a cruise across Bosphrous sea and saw the place called Dolma Bache palace. Believe me, the either bank of this river is two continents-Europe and Asia. Istanbul is in Asian part. We also went inside the bayer baily palace, Topkapi palace etc. I had also visited a mosque called Blue mosque and another mosque Hagia Shopia. It also partially a church.

View from Galatta tower was breath taking.

I travelled first time in a tram, We traveled to Taxiim square in a very old train, more than 100 years old. My father showed to me the pulley system that operates the train; No engine inside the train. Wonderful…. A train operated by pulley!!!

I visited Gallipoli, a war monument, world war l, Many Australian and Newzlanders including Gorkha regiment from India who fought for Allied force against Turkey and Germans died during that war. I have seen a pine tree, the only living organism survived during that war, known as lone pine tree. Then I visited Deringue underground city, far away from Istanbul near Antalya, at the shore of Mediterranean sea, Tough this city is abandoned it was interesting. The city with full of infrastructure like market, worship places, wine preparation areas, conference rooms, court yards etc used 3000 years ago. , is below 10-50 meters depth, well connected with various tunnels I also visited some roman theaters, Aspendos.

I visited Pamukkale, it is a natural hot spring area with white calcium deposits. It is a memorable scene. I saw some mountain shaped huge rocks which had another rocks, they look like chimney’s this place is known as land of fairy chimneys known as Cappadocia, Here I also went on a hot air balloon. It was amazing. We went to Kekova, a beautiful island with turquoise water, in a Yacht, We jumped into sea and swam across. We also saw the sunken city, it was beautiful.

Our guide explained me that the area was once a big city of Lycian. We visited ancient city of Myra. Most of the tombs are from the fourth century BC. I visited Troy, we went inside the infamous Trojan horse and were hidden inside for a while. I saw a well dug in a rocky area; it was surprising to all of us, how water available in such a terrain area. Our next attraction was Ephesus, once the capital of Asia the minor, the most important commercial center of western. Eupheseus includes everything that required for a modern city. Market place (Agoda) , Court yard, Fountain ( nymph), Amphitheatere etc. We enjoyed walking through Turkish villages plucking oranges, olives, Pomegranates etc. My mother managed to get a jumbo pomegranate form one village, it was weighing, not less than 1 kg…At the end of the tour, I also learned some Turkish words, like citis, giris (entry and exit ),hawalamani (airport)etc.

It was a good journey and a lifetime experience for me. I will never forget and forever cherish. I wish I could visit it again if I had a chance.
