Soorya Fest – A Superb Cultural Extravaganza

The evening of Thursday, April 10, was a day to remember when Soorya Artistes from India staged a breathtaking performance at the Indian Community School Auditorium (Sr), Salmiya, organized by Soorya Kuwait Chapter, in association with UAE Exchange.

Prior to their excellent performances, His Excellency the Indian Ambassador Sri. Sunil Jain inaugurated the programme by lighting the sacred lamp, along with Vijay Karayil - President, Soorya Kuwait Chapter, Vivek Nair, Acting-General Manager, UAE Exchange and B.S. Pillai, General Secretary. The Ambassador appreciated Soorya Kuwait Chapter for its continued efforts in promoting India’s rich and diverse culture. General Secretary, Soorya Kuwait Chapter, in his welcome address commented on the constructive initiatives taken by The Ambassador since he took over his new assignment, as Ambassador to Kuwait, a few months back. The audience applauded for his kind gesture of re-opening the Embassy Auditorium, for association related functions, a long pending desire of all Indians in Kuwait.

The program was a mix-of three oldest dance forms of India – a Bharatnatyam recital, a Mohiniyattam solo ballet and an Odissi performance along with a Mridangam solo fusion.

The solo ballet performed by Aiswarya Warrier, one of the leading Mohiniattam exponent, stole the show with her immaculate movements and attractive facial gestures.

The Bharatnatyam recital showcased by one of the most promising Bharatnatyam dancer today, Dakshina Vaidyanathan was very strong in rhythm and this aspect came through attractively in her recital.

The Odissi dance performed by the leading dancers of the Country, Arupa Gayatri Panda and Praval Kumar Swain, was one of its class and mind blowing as they succeeded in building up an instant rapport with the audience.

The Mridangam solo fusion by the maestro, the world record holder for longest hand-drum marathon Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan was extra-ordinary. He uses his skills in percussion as a catalyst for social change exalting peace and anti-violence.

On the whole, the Soorya India Fest of this time was really an exceptional cultural feast for the art lovers in Kuwait.

Later, the artistes were honored with gifts for their outstanding performances. Vivek Nair and Ramdas Nair presented the gifts.

The founder of Soorya India Stage and Film Society Soorya Krishna Murthy was also honored on the glorious occasion in appreciation of his valued contribution for the promotion of art and culture. Vijay Karayil, President, Soorya Kuwait Chapter, honored Soorya Krishna Murthy by presenting a Memento, while the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Soorya India, present in 20 countries, has been propagating the art of India outside the country for the last 16 years with the active support of its Chief Patron Dr. B.R. Shetty, Managing Director, NMC group of companies. Soorya is now heading towards the 37th year of its dedicated service for the cause of the promotion of art and culture.
