Indian community in Kuwait celebrate Republic day

Despite the cold weather, large number of Indians gathered at the Indian Embassy premises in Kuwait to pay salute to the nation on its 68th Republic Day. Ambassador of India, HE Mr. Sunil Jain unfurled the National Flag at 9:00 am. This was followed by singing of the National Anthem. Earlier Indian Ambassador started the function by garlanding the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Embassy premise. Ambassador addressed the community and read the message from Hon’ble President of India.

The band set performed by the members of Bohra Community gave a scintillating start to the event. Students from various Indian school including Bhavans Kuwait, Indian Community School, FAIPS DPS, Indian Central School etc along with members of Indian Doctors forum performed various patriotic songs.

Thousands of Indian citizens from all walks of life including representatives of Indian associations, businessmen, doctors, engineers, other professionals, domestic workers and Embassy staff with their families participated in the open-air function with joy and enthusiasm. An open house reception was held for all present at the conclusion of the celebration. Various Indian restaurants gave delicious breakfast to the public.

The Ambassador extended his warm greetings to all members of the Indian Community in Kuwait and also conveyed his best wishes to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, His Highness The Prime Minister as well as the people of the friendly state of Kuwait with which India enjoys a close multi-faceted relationship. In his speech he mentioned that Indians are the largest community in Kuwait and reiterate the community to obey the rules of the land in all aspects. "I am available any time to address your problem collectively or individually', he said while speaking to the community members. The presence of more than 9.2 lakhs of Indian community in Kuwait clearly shows that we are the most law abiding and peace loving and it is our responsibility to maintain the law and order of this country, Ambassador said. "I already held discussion with higher authorities about the safety and security of Indian nationals in places such as Abbasiya," he said. The Embassy also seek the support of community members in each area as volunteer to liaison with authorities on issues our community is facing, he added. Ambassador also emphasized various measures taken by the embassy to support the community.

To commemorate India’s Republic Day, various newspapers in Kuwait released special supplement and distributed free copies at the embassy premise.
