Maharashtra Mandal Kuwait Celebrates "World Marathi Language Day"

Maharashtra Mandal Kuwait (MMK) celebrated “Marathi Bhasha Din” in the Indian Community School, Khaitan. 27th February is the birth day of the Gyaanpeeth award winning marathi poet V.V. Shirwadkar popularly known as 'Kusumagraj'. This day is dedicated to his memory by observing it as Marathi Bhasha Din all over the world. Apart from India, Marathi speaking people reside in about 72 different countries with about 11 crore speakers. Marathi is ranked 15th most spoken language in the world and 4th in India.

The program was mainly dedicated to showcase the evolution, development and stratification of Marathi as a language for its rich literature and traditions. MMK provided a unique opportunity to its members to show case their talent in the field of literature. A host of twenty members from various backgrounds read verses of Marathi poems, narrated excerpts from well-known writers. A few enacted some part of drama from famous plays. The main purpose of program was to propagate Marathi to the future generation.

The chief guest for the event was Mr Shubashis Goldar the Deputy Chief of Mission & Chief Public Information Officer at the Indian Embassy Kuwait who graced the occasion with his esteemed presence and appreciated the efforts in keeping the rich traditions alive.

The main highlight of the event was the program Hasya Dhara presented by the renowned artist in the literary world Mr Ashok Naigaonkar. He is an eminent poet and the winner of numerous prestigious awards in the Marathi literary field from India. Hasya Dhara was an humorous program, a mix of satire, and poems all presented with comic effect. The program was well appreciated and received positive response from all sections of audience.

Maharashtra Mandal Kuwait (MMK) is a socio-cultural organization of Marathi speaking people from India, formed in 1982 registered with Indian embassy Kuwait which has been organizing various cultural, educational, artistic and charitable events for Indian community in general and Maharashtrian community in particular. In past the MMK has invited renowned Indian artist, poets, academician, intellectuals, educators to spread awareness about India, its culture and rich heritage.
