Don Bosco, Curtorcares and Rising Stars March on 39th UGC Tourney:

Don Bosco played Malabar in the first match and they beat Malabar 5-1, a similar result they achieved a few weeks ago in the final they played against each other. Both teams played good attacking football in the first half and both keepers were kept on high alert. In the first fifteen minutes, an unmarked Prajot opened the scoring gates for Don Bosco.

Then Don Bosco began to get into the groove and maintained more possession and demonstrated some good passing play to make the match difficult for Malabar. Five Minutes later after Malabar failed a regulation clearance, Salman made it 2-0. The third goal came from Lloyed from the penalty spot after the Malabar keeper received a yellow card for holding the Don Bosco striker. Amir Hashim scored the fourth goal to end the first half. In the second-half Malabar was more on the defensive front, and they pulled a goal back after a Don Bosco defender handled the ball in the box. Jibu scored from the penalty spot. Lloyed then curled in a marvelous free kick over the Malabar wall to make it five for Don Bosco. Don Bosco play DHL next week in their quarter final match.

In the second match Curtorcares scored a record eleven goals against KGA. Goals were scored by Cleto, Neves, Agnelo (2), Vincy (2),Bonny(2) and a hat-trick from Anees. They scored five goals in the first halfand six goals in the second half.

The KGA defenders found it tough to contain the Curtorcares attack who moved the ball well on the flanks. Curtorcares had everything going for them and every shot they took found the back of the net. They dominated the game completely and didn’t allow KGA much time with the ball.

KGA will need to regroup and rethink their strategy for their next match.

In the first quarter final, Kerela Challengers edged AVC by 2-1 to reach the semi-finals. This match was equally balanced and both teams maintained an equal amount of possession in the match. It was open for the taking and it was anyone’s game.

Anas took the lead for Kerela challengers in the first half after some excellent passing play from Kerela Challengers.

Both the keepers were kept busy during the match and both teams displayed precise pass and play movements on the pitch. Selwyn Fernandes equalized with his header for AVC. AVC was playing for the winner and were unlucky Sebytons volley hit the post.

Luciano had another chance but he headed just wide of the post. In the second half, No.6 Abdul Nizal long range shot on goal gave the AVC keeper no chance and sealed the match for Kerela Challengers. AVC tried all avenues but were not able to find the equalizer when the final whistle blew. Kerela Challengers will next face the winners of Curtorcares/Rising Stars in the semi-finals.
