MP Dr Aseel Al-Awadhi has expressed concern over the absence of laws to protect children in the country.
In a press statement Tuesday, Al-Awadhi pointed out the absence of a legislative structure to protect children and ensure their rights is a clear manifestation of the negligence of the legislature, especially since there are many cases of violence and abuse against children.
Stating she presented a draft bill on the civil and social rights of children, Al-Awadhi unveiled her plan to propose amendments to the existing laws to protect the children and guarantee their rights.
She recently met with a number of experts in the areas of family, childhood and counseling, who briefed her on the alarming cases of violence against children.
She underlined the need to focus on this issue as the children are the hope of the nation.
