The Indian Navy is one of the largest navies in the world and I had a keen desire to visit one of the IN ships. At last, the day came when my long-cherished desire turned into reality when the Indian Embassy arranged a visit of the selected students to the Indian Warships .This gave us a chance to explore the real Warships stem to stern.

By 7:30a.m we set out from school in our school bus, and reached the Shuwaikh Port by 8 a.m. were the ships were brethren. At first sight itself, we were bowled over by its majesticity . As we came close to it, we were struck by its unique structure. It is a marvel in alloy of steel!

We were welcomed onboard with salutes. Then the students interacted with the Nau-Sainiks and could understand how the Men-of-War live and fight. The smartly dressed officials elaborated and explained each and every detail about the ships.

We first visited INS Delhi, the guided-missile destroyer of the Indian Navy. She is the third largest warship which is fully designed and built in India. INS Delhi is commanded by Capt. Sandeep Singh Sandhu .This Warship is packed with high density of armaments and sensors and processing systems. There was a helicopter deck located at the stern of the ship. It carries two Sea King helicopters- the new Dhruv advanced light helicopter (ALH) or Chetak helicopter and the AgustaWestland Sea King helicopter. The dedicated and patient team explained us all the facts about this ship and showed us every nook and corner of the ship. Our doubts regarding the Navy were cleared by Lt. Jerry C.

Then we explored INS Tarkash . INS Tarkash is the second of the Teg Class’Stealth’ frigates to be commissioned and is one of the most potent platform of the Indian Navy .Tarksh carries cutting edge weaponry which includes supersonic anti-ship missiles BrahMos, advanced surface to air missiles, optically controlled 30mm close in weapon system anti-submarine and anti-ship torpedoes and rocket launcher. Tarkash incorporates stealth features to outsmart the enemy with her reduced radar, infrared, acoustic and majestic signatures thus making it difficult for the enemy to detect her. This ship is commanded by Captain Pradeep Singh.

Then, the INS Deepak which was commissioned in January 2011 and it is a modern fleet tanker designed to be utilized as a fleet support ship. The Deepak-class tanker can carry 17,900 tonnes of cargo. It is equipped with an eight-bed hospital, with laboratory and X-ray facilities

It was really an unforgettable experience, which apart from being intellectually rewarding, gave us a glimpse of our country’s professional uniformed services. This visit was also an inspiration for the students to join the Indian Armed Forces. The officers were happy to hear that some of the students were also interested to join the Bharatiya Sasastra Senae?.
