No Indian casualties in Farwaniya fire, confirms Indian Embassy

IIK Staff Reporter Friday, July 1, 2016

No Indian was among the 9 people who died in fire at a house in Farwaniya, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed.

Earlier IndiansinKuwait.com reported that nine members of a Pakistani family killed in a fire at their house in Farwaniya block 2 area. According to eye witness, Pakistani national Muhammad Asif, his mother, his wife, two sons, two daughters, one nephew and sister in law are among the deceased. Asif’s brother Tariq is admitted to the hospital. The ill-fated family was living in Kuwait city Farwaniya for the last fifteen years.

Kuwait is witnessing extreme hot these days and the number of fire incidents reported in recent time. Last week, a fire at the central jail killed one inmate and wounded 56 other people, including a fireman. According to reports, most of the fire incidents are caused by short circuit.

According to Acting Director of KFSD Maj Gen Khalid Al-Mekrad, the prefabricated building in Farwaniya, which caught fire on Thursday, lack basic security and safety precautions and have some major violations.

People are advised to check their surroundings and make sure that no inflammatory subjects exist. Many apartments are converted as temporary go down, which poses high risk especially in the summer. People should also know the safe exit plan in their apartment in case of any emergency. Knowing escape routes and alternatives ahead of time is a great thing.

Two-thirds of all electrical fires begin in plugs or cords on appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners or lamps. Special attention should be given to large appliances that use high wattage, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, irons, microwave ovens, dishwashers, and deep fryers. Avoid plugging them into the same outlet or circuit. If your electrical outlet is hot to the touch, unplug all appliances and have the wiring inspected as soon as possible.

There are Hundreds of Building which is registered for residential but their Basement are using as warehouses and even these warehouses storing hazardous materials like paints and other dangerous inflammable materials. Govt. should inspect those buildings and take action against the violator/s.
