The new central committee for Kuwait Kerala Islahi Center (KKIC), 2017, was elected by the center’s general council at the Iyatu Turasu Jamiatul Ulama hall. PN Abdul Lateef Madani was unanimously elected as the President, followed by TP Abdul Aziz as the General Secretary. The other core members include AM Abdul Samad, Vice President, and KC Abdul Lateef as Finance Secretary and Zakir K as Joint Secretary.
The program began with a presentation of the performance report of the last 16 years by the general secretary, followed by the financial report by the finance secretary. The committee report was presented by the organizing secretary.
The report mentioned the various activities carried out by KKIC’s social welfare department such as zakat collection, swanthaman relief funds, distribution of school kit, Eid dress and Iftar kit. Last year, Zakat distribution was mainly focused on providing self-employment, medical treatment and debt relief. The zakat fund was utilized in providing relief to the following number of deserving candidates – 117 for medical treatments, 47 for self-employment, 34 for debt relief and 33 for scholarships for the economically backward. Under the Shelter and Relief Project, KKIC built 2 houses for the needy, in addition to partially sponsoring the construction of 72 houses.
Other services included cooperative animal sacrifice initiatives, and running of Madrasas in Abbasiya, Farwaniya, Salmiya and Faheel under the center’s department of education. With the support of Kuwait Awqaf Ministry, KKIC was conducted a seminar for teenagers under the topic ‘Knowledge for Peace’ with the participation of scholars both from Kuwait and abroad, along with academicians.
Among the key activities organized by KKIC last year were Madrasa Day and Sports Day. The center’s Dawah department has been conducting Quran classes at 12 different locations. Focus Meet was an event that wad organized for professionals in Kuwait. Ramadan and Iftar Meets and a 2-day Quran Expo held in February 2016 were the other highlights. More than 300 people went on Umra organized by KKIC through 10 trips last year. 50 people were offered free umra.
Under the Wisdom Roots project, KKIC volunteers visited more than 100,000 homes, belonging to both Malayalis and non-Malayalis and distributed booklets and pamphlets. Arts fest, football tournament, peace radio, volley ball, Farha sports meet and kiosks ere some of other successful events from last year.
The election proceedings were officiated by the returning officers Udar Kannu, Mujeeb Rahman and Aziz Narkottu.
