Tamilnadu Engineers Forum (TEF) conducted the 3rd Technical Seminar on Friday 24th March 2017 at Fintas Community Hall

General Secretary Mr. Amuthan delivered the Welcome Address and briefed the two technical sessions of the day. And introduced Mr. N. Lakshminarayanan, the speaker of the 1st Technical session
Session 1: Rotating Equipment Maintenance in Competitive Refinery Business
Starting with introduction to Rotating Equipment in Refinery, Mr. Lakshminarayanan highlighted the criticality of the machinery and the huge costs involved in their maintenance and the losses encountered if the equipment are not maintained or unavailable for reasons of spares and parts
Refinery Maintenance programs of Regular, Preventive, Predictive, Shut-down, Criticality were differentiated and he emphasized on the standards being considered for the best practices followed in the repair and overhauling of the machinery
He advised that Mechanical Engineers should be well versed with topics of metallurgy, process, corrosion, material of construction, instrumentation and control, reliability study to be successful in predicting reasons of faults and failures and that experience and these inter-discipline discussions helped in solving various problems at many instances. Thus being able to make strong decisions to find cost effective solutions and time saving techniques to benefit the Refinery processes and having equipment working with better efficiencies
The Maintenance program and activities involved were enriching for the member engineers
Mr. K. Ramanan recited the Thirukkural, selecting a topic on Leadership and compared the leadership quality of bold decision making to the success of Mr. Lakshminarayanan
He went on to introduce Mr. Praveen Madhavan, the Speaker of the 2nd Session who presented on Rebuilding Leadership
Mr. Praveen Madhavan is a Consultant and founder of M/S Project Seers who are Business Management Consultancy Services Company
The Session on Rebuilding Leadership was very interesting, interactive and thought provoking. Mr. Praveen highlighted that business strategies in current situations are different from the policies followed by many companies in the past
He described the term “Rebuilding” in the Topic saying Leadership quality within every individual is suppressed by the enemy factors within, thus quality of individual is the prime in rebuilding the Leadership quality
He highlighted the qualities of a Leader and the responsibilities that successful leaders undertake to be proven successful.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. Manikandan and the emcee of the evening program was by Joint Secretary Mr. Venkatesan
