Large number of people irrespective of religion and nationality gathered at Kuwait Oil Company Al Ahmadi Garden, Kuwait on Friday 21st morning to attend the curtain raiser event for the International Yoga Day event in Kuwait. The event was organised by Indian Embassy Kuwait in association with various community organisations.

Earlier at 6:30 am, Indian Ambassador to Kuwait HE Sunil Jain welcomed the gatherings, which includes people from various nationalities. Various 'asanas' of yoga were demonstrated by various yoga groups in Kuwait.

This event is one of many in the run up to the International Yoga day. International Day of Yoga, which falls on the 21st of June, will be celebrated this year at Indian Embassy on June 17th to respect the Holi Month of Ramadan. As part of the celebration, a Sanskrit Competition will be held by Samskrita Bharati on the second week of May.

Several Organisations including Heartfulness, Art of Living, Seva Darshan, Amma Kuwait, Artistic Yoga and Harmony House took part in the curtain raiser event and demonstrated various yoga postures.

June 21 was declared the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on Dec 11, 2014 after a call by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he addressed the UN General Assembly on Sept 27, 2014. The call had the support of 177 countries, including the State of Kuwait.
