New Tariff from Tuesday; MEW eyes increase in revenues

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Minister of Electricity and Water and Oil Essam Al-Marzouq said MEW revenues vary between KD 200-250 million per year. He expected the income to increase to KD 400 million during 2017- 2018. He said new tariffs were implemented on May 22 on the commercial sector and will go into effect on Aug 22 for the investment sector.

Meanwhile, many citizens and expatriates have registered resentment on the implementation of the decision, especially as it coincides with the new fees for health services provided to expatriates by the State. They lamented that it will pose a huge burden in light of low salaries received by expatriates in both public and private sectors.

@Boby. Power tariffs are implemented everywhere including UAE. There has been no shortage of expats there. Power tariffs are applicable in India too and many low income families are struggling to afford that, but they don't leave the country. So this will just be accepted slowly into the expense budget of a family, that's it. Fact is that Kuwait took so long to realise the potential.

Very soon Kuwait will become expatriate free country. What they will do then? How to increase fees?
