Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Hind Al-Sabeeh assured that an early resolution will be taken within two weeks’ time on the problem faced by large number of Indian workers at the Kharafi National and other Kuwaiti companies. She made this remarks during her meeting with the visiting Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Shri M.J. Akbar on Wednesday morning.

According to source, Kuwait labour minister had asked the Indian Embassy to provide the list of all employees who are facing crisis at the company. Indian Minister Sri M J Akbar had requested the Kuwaiti side to consider the issues of the severe financial crisis faced by the Indian workers with utmost priority. Thousands of Indian workers are stranded at the company’s labour camps with no salaries and no access to other monetary resources. More than 300 workers had gathered at Indian Embassy premise Tuesday evening to meet the Indian Minister Sri MJ Akbar and describe their situation. Many of them are with expired residency and need to pay huge amount as fine to leave the country. The sources said that the Indian Embassy will provide the list of all the workers to the Kuwaiti authority within two days for helping them to take appropriate action.

Kuwaiti Minister Hind Al-Sabeeh assured all her support in solving the long pending issues. Kuwait eyes closer cooperation with India in various vital fields, particularly labour, she said. Hind Al-Sabeeh also discussed the ways to recruit Indian labour in Kuwait via electronic connectivity. Using such a modern method would contribute in bringing more of qualified and productive labour to the Kuwaiti market, said Al-Sabeeh. Kuwait is keen on protecting the rights of expats in general and overcoming all obstacles facing them, she added.

Indian side thanked Kuwaiti side for the humanitarian approach taken for early resolution of the problem faced by distressed Indian workers in Kharafi National and other Kuwaiti companies.

Embassy is requested to have helpline or online LINK for the employees to register their data which is required for the Ministry of Social Affairs & Labor in Kwt. Otherwise, allocate time slot to personally come & register at the embassy premises which is not easy as most of the suffering people don't have visa or valid documents to move out.

For the past one year, various meetings were held and promises were made; but nothing substantial happened. Now embassy to submit the list of employees for what ? Updated Data of all employees must be available with respective companies at a finger click away. It will show the date of joining / resign / pending salary / total duration of service / indemnity etc. So it is easy to assign priority based on resign date and waiting period. Otherwise, our Embassy staffs might 'play' with the list for their convenience; typical "Indian scenario".
