Aligarh Muslim University old Boys Association Bicentenary Celebrations

Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) – Kuwait Chapter is glad to share the grand success of much awaited event the ‘Bicentenary Celebration’ of its founder ‘Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’ on 2nd November 2017 at Hilton Resort Mangaf.

Mesmerizing weather on Thursday-night at the outskirt sea-side venue was more than a perfect stage set for gala time. Roll out of carpets to welcome invitees, among those were the dignitaries and distinguished guests, University well-wishers and its supporters, sponsors and last but not the least Kuwait Alig Alumni fraternity, at large with their families and friends.

On a very special occasion AMU Alumni expressed their love and affection to their Alma-matter by paying a tribute to its founder ‘Sir Syed’. The Hilton - Royal Marque Ballroom registered its full-seated capacity with the foot-fall of around 450 people.

Proceedings of program continued in its traditional way of first reciting Holy Qur’an and followed by Kuwait and Indian National Anthems.

Welcome note by AMUOBA President Mr. Khurram Saeed and receiving the respected chief guest who is present serving AMU Vice- Chancellor Professor Mr. Tariq Mansoor. He graced the evening with his presence, Prof. Tariq Mansoor addressed the audience and took pride in presenting University updates on its current higher ranking achievements, overall development in academics, campus and its faculties. He urged the Alumni to stay united and represent as true brand ambassador of AMU by inculcating the teachings of Sir Syed having large hearted tolerance, free enquiry and pure morality. He shared his vision of playing a key-role to bring the world-wide Alig community at one platform through Global Alig Directory, by virtue of which each member will connect, communicate and collaborate. Kick-off an idea of AMU Open university, connecting NRIs Alumni children under internship & workshop with on-campus programs are his forth coming initiatives. Announcement he made that on annual basis a distinct National & International ‘Sir Syed Award’ shall be given to recognize exceptional contribution of AMU Alumnus. He also touched upon the illustrious Alumni that Aligarh has given out to the community in the form of State Heads, Bharat Ratan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibushan, Padma Shri and enormous Leaders in all trades.

Thoughts sharing and speeches by other dignitaries Mr. Khalid Hamdan Al-Saif CEO of NAPESCO, Mr. Abduallah Thakur CEO Al-Dhow Capital Holding Co. and Indian Embassy representative Shri Jaladhi Mukherjee. The speakers emphasized the importance of education, praised the vision of Sir Syed and encircled the bonds that Kuwait shares with India.

The Bicentenary preparation were held much in advance by Alig community and were indulged in hoisting the children Essay writing competition, evaluation of student’s Academic Excellence and in sports, it conducted Badminton tournament of various category for children and seniors. During the Bicentenary function, the Awards distribution ceremony was held in giving away the trophies, medals and certificates to respective winners.

SS day celebration has a unique tradition in which Souvenir is released, this year “The Elite” was unwrapped under the able guidance and editorship of Mr. Irfan Mohammad khan who beautifully bundled the articles, messages and achievement of AMUOBA in the preceded year. The Mementoes were distributed to Elected Body in recognition of their efforts and contribution towards the smooth and fruitful functioning of Association.

Taking back to the memory lanes and nostalgic moment for every Alig was to watch Mr. Johny Foster on stage. He is a renowned Music Teacher at Aligarh Muslim University and a recipient of national and international awards and honours in the field of classical music.

We thanked him for coming over all the way to Kuwait and perform on this SS day function. He sync notes with Team Tarana a choir that sung university song. This was for the first time Mr. Johny Foster live directed the Tarana at AMUOBA function in Kuwait and aloud roar of applaud came from the audience once the ending lines “ Yeh Abr hameesha barsa hai Yeh Abr Hameesha Barsega”

AMUOBA Vice President Mr. Aslam Pervez concluded with thanks to everyone in joining and making the event a successful one while inviting the gathering for beach side buffet dinner.

Proud of being Alig, when ever I look my present I thanks to my Ustad professor Wassay Usmani, and my father who encouraged me to appear in competitive exams and get admission in AMU.
The line of Tirana "Yeh Abra Hamesha Barsa hai Yeh Abra Hamesha Barsega" is very true.
