Kuwait based businessman Thomas Chandy quits as Kerala minister

Battling land grab charges, Thomas Chandy on Wednesday resigned as the Kerala Transport Minister. Chandy submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through NCP leader T.P. Peethamabaran.

Kuwait based business man Thomas Chandy was the transport minister in Kerala cabinet. The resignation came after the Kerala High Court on Tuesday dismissed Chandy's petition against the District Collector's report in Lake Palace Resort row and said that the minister should step down before approaching the court.

Kerala High Court earlier dismissed a petition by state Transport Minister Thomas Chandy for quashing the Alappuzha district collector's report which alleged large-scale land grab by him to build a plush resort.

The division bench of the court of Justice P.N. Ravindran and Justice Devan Ramachandran came down heavily on Chandy and observed that it was very strange what a state Minister has filed a petition against the state government "which questions the failure of the collective responsibility of the cabinet".

Thomas Chandy, who came to Kuwait as an NRI around 40 years back is now the Chairman of United Indian School Abbasiya and Indian Public School, Salmiya. Hi-Dine Supermarket, Hot breads are few of his other business activities in Kuwait. He also owns an school in Saudi Arabia and a resort back in Kerala. Large number of Indians is working under his various business units in Kuwait.

This s for the attention of all who have commented on UIS and the director of the school. I am a former teacher of the school and I would like to state some facts.
1. Mrs. Roy has been in the school for the past around 25 years - starting as the teaching supervisor and is currently the director of the school. She is an efficient administrator who has taken the school from strength to strength.
2. Under her leadership the school has gained the reputation of being one of the best disciplined schools in Kuwait.
3. She has ensured that a school of 7000 + students and 200+ teachers runs smoothly.
4. In my years of working there I have never heard her raise her voice at any of the teachers, thus maintaining the dignity of teachers in front of the students they have to guide.
4. Her integrity is unquestioned. She does not indulge in any unfair practice. This teaches students that only with integrity and strength of character can they succeed in life.
5. Even today, with a school so big she takes a personal interest in each and every student in the school.
6.Her kindness and compassion is not to show off to other people but is done quietly so as to not embarrass the person she is helping.
7. She is proud of every achievement of the students and she ensures that she is there to congratulate them on it.
8. She makes sure that the school enters only those events that we can participate in without compromising on the academics.
9. She ensures that the best teacher for the job is in-charge of every extra curricular activity the school participates in.
10. She comes to school at 6.30 every morning and leaves only after every other person has left. In the evening she is back again at school and leaves only by around 9 pm
In conclusion, without knowing her and hearing praise of other people, please do not make hasty judgements based on hearsay.

Every body remember the scenario of getting minister ship for Mr.Chandy .

It was a 'HONEY TRAP' in which earlier minister Saseendran was trapped. Mangalam group CEO- Mr.Ajitkumar was in un-bailed Jail for couple of weeks in relation with the police action on this case .However, the ultimate beneficiary was Mr.Chandy. In my opinion one enthusiastic press person can just dig out the real stories behind that honey trap.

Thomas Chandy a NRI occupies the seat in the Kerala Cabinet as a minister and in Kuwait he as a seat as the Chairman of two schools!! Only in India we can see such personalities as everyone gets a share of Chandy's profit from these schools. Please don't compare Ramachandran the chairman of Bahavans with Thomas Chandy they are incomparable in many ways also don't compare Bhavans Kuwait with UIS and never ever with Indian Public school. They are poles apart. Madame Sujatha as everyone in the school knew was tormented by the director and finally the simple heart left but in touch with Kuwait. Her sufferings at the hands of the people close to the director cannot be narrated and Thomas Chandy was also kept informed by her. God bless all these so called heroes ..

The Honest Parent was truly a honest man and I know Mrs. Sujatha Sivakrishnan as a principal of Bhavans school in Kerala. A widely read personality who tried her best to make these teachers of UIS "Work" but the coterie around the principal transformed as Director did not allow her to set the school right. Chairman Chandy did not help her and she left one fine day for treatment as the reason and never returned. Bhavans Chairman Ramachandran is also here for the same number of years as Thomas Chandy the Chairman of UIS and IPS. There is a world of difference in banker turned entrepreneur and businessman turned politician. UIS and IPS are ruled by politics of the teachers and administrators like its founder while Bhavans in a decade has made a mark as the Chairman is a visionary and does not allow politics to ruin his schools. Hope now Chandy will return to Kuwait and set his schools right first by changing the principal with someone younger and having wider exposure and IPS the CBSE results of that school needs to improve. So sir, come fast and do the damage control and focus on academics.

@aby, you are absolutely right! The curse of parents whose sweat and blood has built that UIS school will haunt him for this life and the next and there is no doubt. The teachers are not at all working in the school but at home as they make 10 times their salary through tuition. He could not find a Principal to replace his own tribe who as per cbse rules must have retired by now. Parents have lodged a PIL with CBSE about this. He appointed a new and efficient principal but she was harassed and driven. He did not act and he is the minister in Kerala. It is a pity that a man like chandy is worshiped in Abbasia as their saviour!!

Everybody knows how he and his friends made money from Kuwait. Still he is not giving decent salary to the teachers and non-teaching staffs of schools (house maid's salary is better than teachers of his schools). Unnecessarily he is collecting money (by means of coupon sale etc...) from students. what ever happen to him is the result of curse of teachers and parents of his own schools.
