As part of “Loka Kerala Sabha”, Kerala Government and KSNA (Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy) is conducting an International Drama Festival for expatriates in which the renowned play of Future Eye Theatre ‘USHNAMEGHALAYILE PENKUTTI’ (Girl in summer zone) is selected.

The drama festival will start from 1st Jan to 10th Jan 2018 at corporation town hall Kozhikode. This is the one and only play to be stage there from Kuwait which is scheduled on 6th Jan 2018.

It has the credit of securing the best director award in the competition held for amateur dramas in 2014 conducted by Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy. The play is written and directed by Mr. Shemej Kumar K.K, vice president of Future Eye Theatre Kuwait.

The press meets to announce the same was attended by Mr.Vattiyoorkkavu Krishnakumar (Gen. Secretary, Future Eye Theatre), Mr.Shemej Kumar KK (Vice President), Mr.Satheesh Varijakshan (Advisory Board Member), Mr.Govind Santha (Programme Coordinator), Mr.Sarath Nair (Treasurer), Ms.Mini Satheesh and Ms.Remya Ratheesh (Lady Conveners).

Apart from this play from Kuwait, many Award winning plays from Bahrain, Qatar, and zones of India like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata are also being staged during the festival.

In Malabar (northern part of Kerala), a social taboo named ‘Mysore Wedding’ is still prevalent. This play is a lively discussion and depiction of the same the helplessness of women, the marginalized group of girls, dire poverty – all these lead the female population into the cycle that traps them.

This festival derives its financial aid from World Kerala Sabha’s upliftment plans for expatriates.

Future Eye Theatre is a very active drama troupe in Kuwait from 2009. They have always been unique by deviating from the conventional way of treating socio- political issues to banking on several academic scenarios. Samuel Beckett’s ‘WAITING FOR GODOT’, Kafka’s ‘METAMORPHOSIS’, Salvador Dali’s painting ‘THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY’ and Badal Sarkar’s ‘BEYOND THE LAND OF HATTAMALA’ are a few classics on which their plays are based on.

Future Eye Theater have won twice Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy awards in best direction for Shemej Kumar K.K and special jury award for Deepu Vellimon. They also participated in the micro-drama competition in Delhi and in the Radio Drama Festival conducted by Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam.

In the month of April 2017, an innovative way of presenting a drama called “motion theatre” was done with their project ‘BLACK GOLD’. The same drama has been submitted for 8th Theatre Olympics to be conducted in India by National School of Drama in 2018, and the selection process is undergoing.
