Ministry plans to deduct service dues from subscribers’ bank accounts

Monday, January 15, 2018

Ministry is planning to deduct its dues such as unpaid landline phone bills etc from subscribers’ bank accounts automatically to avoid accumulating their debts.

According to local media Kuwait Times'report, the ministry will consult the fatwa and legislation department and banks on implementing the decision with the aim of avoiding problems like those the ministry had faced on collecting overdue bills worth millions of dinars from subscribers before the Iraqi invasion.

I would be very very surprised if banks agree that they will allow money to be deducted from accounts of people without consulting the account holder. How can anyone dip into my account, what if I have a dispute with the bill or have paid the bill or surrenedered the line long time back however the telecom department hasnt done their part in cancelling the line!!!! The Govt and ministry has all the rights to put travel ban, file court cases or even get account frozen by court order but to say money will be taken out from bank account would be unprecedented. Lets wait and watch.
