Plan to implement EPA certificate for vehicle renewal

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Environment Public Authority (EPA) is planning to implement a new condition for issuance of road license for vehicles which will be introduced in the beginning of 2019.

According to local media report, a certificate from the authority should be presented to prove the emissions from the vehicle are not harmful to the environment.

EPA Director General Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad said, “A mechanism will be set in place to organize the process through which the authority will issue certificate to car owners, and General Traffic Department will then be addressed to approve the renewal of road licenses”.

“Vehicle owners will not be able to renew the road license for their vehicles without certification from EPA”, he affirmed.

The new condition will be implemented on everyone. The objective is to remove from the roads vehicles that harm the environment and cause noise pollution.

Some Egyptians were saying we have to pay KD 20 each year for EPA certificate. May be more if wasta is applied.

I hope this works like the pollution certificate in India. This will save a lot of vehicle owner who get caught due to smoke or pollution and get their vehicles impounded for no reason.

Environment rules in place since many years but still vehicles specially company vehicles with heavy smoke are on roads as well as vehicles of more than 20-25 years old. As long as Wasta (either cash or some other favour) prevails everything is possible!!!???
