CBSE Kuwait Cluster Table Tennis Organized by Bhavans, Kuwait

The 20th CBSE table tennis tournament for girls, U – 14, U – 17 and U -19 was organized by Indian Educational School, Kuwait on May 6th and 7th. The Physical Education Department of Indian Educational School, Kuwait under their team leader Mr. Murugaiyan made excellent arrangement to ensure the smooth conduct of the two-day event that witnessed teams from 7 Indian schools in Kuwait fight for supremacy.

The colorful event was inaugurated by the Secretary to the Council of CBSE affiliated schools in the gulf and Principal of Indian Educational School, Kuwait Mr. T. Premkumar. In his address Mr. Premkumar, an outstanding sportsman of his times, said “Sports teaches character, it teaches to play by the rules, it teaches to know what it feels like to win and lose - it teaches life itself”. He further urged the players to play hard and fight until the last point, and enjoy the game to its fullest. Mr. Premkumar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Principals of the Kuwait Chapter and all the Physical Education teachers of all the Indian Schools in Kuwait for their unstinted support in making the event possible, and wished them and their teams the very best. Mr. Premkumar completed the inauguration ceremony by playing table tennis with a seeded player from FAIPS. His backhand smash took the young player by surprise and the children were awestricken.

15 teams from 7 Indian schools played the tournament which was under league cum knock out basis. U – 14 finals was a thriller with both the Indian Public School and the FAIPS teams manifesting their prowess. With 3-2 the victory embraced the girls from IPS. In the U – 17 finals, FAIPS took on the agile girls from Indian English Academy and won the matches hands down. In the U – 19 category FAIPS girls displayed their class with their forehand and backhand smashes against their opponents from the Indian Community School. FAIPS girls controlled the game from the opening points, hassling their opponents, and relentlessly attacking every loose shot, defending flawlessly with incredible reflex shots on the rare occasions. Victory came to them naturally flying past their opponents from ICSK.

While relishing yet another task topped off by Bhavans, Kuwait, Mr. Murugaiyan, the Department Head of Physical Education, IES expressed his gratitude to his team and all the teachers who assisted him in completing the event as per the schedule.

Sir, after volleyball you are into TT?? After you left, our team disintegrated as the leader left so problems arose. Now all of us play for different teams. Sports without you is no fun sir. Nice to see you in action - backhand smash...ha ha ha.. we all fondly remember you. Our Mathew has now moved to Kuwait. Once a sports man always you are a sports man with no politics in your administration a lesson many here have to learn.
