The Indian nurses, who were stranded in Kuwait for the last two years after recruited by Ministry of Health finally had a sigh of relief after the government legalized their residence and completed the formalities for employment at health ministry hospitals.
80 Indian nurses were recruited from India for MoH two years back, however, their appointment was delayed due to various issues related to the recruitment process. Later Civil Service Commission cancelled their appointments over alleged financial irregularities in recruitment and involvement of middle men in the recruitment process. They were living in Kuwait without job for the past two years.
Indian Embassy had taken up the issue of these nurses with the Kuwaiti authorities. The aggrieved nurses had also raised the issue with Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj during her recent visit to Kuwait. Sushma Swaraj had assured them a speedy resolution for their problem.
According to latest updates, 70 nurses’ deployment has been completed and their place of allocation is under process like primary health centers, hospitals under MoH. Cases of six nurses, who were later transferred to family visas are under further verification. Three of them, who are pregnant may not be considered for deployment as it is in contradiction to the employment norms of Kuwait. One nurse had already left for India.
