The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of ICSK – And the Inaugural Ceremony of Gyanutsav 2018

The beautiful morning of 21st November 2018 was charged with zealous energy as the whole of ICSK was in the anticipation of flagging off the Gyanutsav of 2018, along with celebrating the sexagenarian anniversary of ICSK.

The whole school was brimming with the creative and innovative works of each ICSKian. The Ambassador of Tanzania to Kuwait, His Excellency Mr. Mahadi J. Maalim was the chief guest for the day. Mrs. Mariam Dashti (Head of Primary and KG education, Ministry of Private Education) was the guest of Honor.

The special guests included Sr. Violette (Principal of Carmel School Kuwait), Mrs. Shanta Maria James (Principal of Indian Central School, Kuwait), Mrs. Shyamala Divakaran (Principal of Gulf Indian School, Kuwait), Mr. Kenneth Alexander Rodriguez (Principal of Indian Public School, Kuwait), Mrs. Anita Sadanand (Principal of Salmiya Indian Model School, Kuwait), Mrs. Susan Roy (Director of United Indian School, Kuwait), Dr. Achuthan Madhav (Principal of Jabriya Indian School, Kuwait), Fr. Lionel Braganza (Principal of Indian English Academy, Kuwait), Mr. Ajith Kumar (Principal of United Indian School, Kuwait) and Mrs. Asha Sharma (Principal of Learners Own Academy, Kuwait). The Honorable members of the Board of Trustees - Mr. Sheikh Abdul Rahman (Chairman), Mr. Deepak Seth (HR Manager) and Mr. Amer Mohammed (Secretary) were also present. The Vice Principal of ICSK senior - Dr. Sam T. Kuruvilla, the Deputy Vice Principal of ICSK - Mrs. Susan Rajesh along with Mrs. Shirley Dennis ( Principal of ICSK Junior), Mr. Rajesh Nair (Principal of ICSK Amman) and Mr. Renjith Pillai, the Marketing Manager of Unimoni also graced the event with their presence.

A very inspiring welcome speech by the Senior Administrator and Principal of ICSK (Senior), Dr. V Binumon commenced the inaugural ceremony. He reminded the students to maintain a vision and action in their lives, to be creative in all fields of knowledge. He also appreciated the continuous efforts and commitments of the teachers of ICSK which led to the success of Gyanutsav. He also advised the students with the 10 life skills proposed by WHO.

Next, the chief guest for the event, His Excellency, Mr. Mahadi J. Maalim rendered a speech where he addressed the very deep relationship between India and Tanzania. He said that Gyanutsav symbolized a connection between science and art, through which students are able express themselves vividly. He referred to the educational exhibition as a noble deed which increased the practical knowledge of the students. He also stressed to remind the students that their time in school should be utilized judiciously.

The Ambassador was very enchanted by the exemplary performances of Swaranjali – the school choir, with their influencing songs and patriotic national anthems of both India and Tanzania. He took great pleasure in explaining the meaning of the national anthem of Tanzania.

The Indian School of Kuwait, an educational institution started in 1959, and the first Indian institution to be affiliated to the CBSE in the GCC in 1965, has been the abode of education to more than 9000 students in the past years. It's name was transformed into The Indian Community School Kuwait in 2001. In 2013 it ventured further in the field of education by introducing the NIOS system of education in the academy. And in 2019, ICSK will proudly complete its 60 years of successful academic excellence. In light

of this auspicious event, the digital inauguration of the motto of ICSK- “From Darkness to Light”, also took place on 21st November 2018.

His Excellency Mr. Mahadi J. Maalim was presented a memento by Principal Dr V. Binumon and Honorary Chairman Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahiman. Mrs. Mariam Dashti, the guest of honor was presented a memento by the Principal Dr V. Binumon and honorary secretary Mr. Amer Mohammed.

Mrs. Susan George, Project Director- Gyanutsav 2018 gave her vote of thanks and stated that education is not merely to acquire facts, it is so much deeper than that. It is the ultimate training on how to survive and live a meaningful life. It is an opportunity for each student to understand the depths of her/his potential and to utilize them to the maximum. And the legacy of ICSK stands as a testimony to the ultimate learning experience. Events like Gyanutsav provide the students with a versatile platform where they are encouraged to create, innovate and exhibit their talents.

A variety of sparkling events like songs, dances, battle of bands and fashion show added fervor to the celebrations. It was a well organized programme to mark an important milestone in the history of the Indian Community School Kuwait.
