Emerald Al-Zour beach!

Mrs Indira Priya Rajan Saturday, September 18, 2010
Emerald Al-Zour beach!

Welcome, as you have stumbled upon this arena to peek inside an interesting beach in South Kuwait, the white sand Al-Zour private beach. If your mood and insights permit for the holidays ahead to wander on the sand, swim in the sparkling water, snooze under the sun and snorkel face-down near the water surface, then please start to drive your family from the refrigerated blocks where we all live, to zoom the zour’s nature.

The peaceful sun-soaked ‘Al-Zour’ sandy beach is also called as Pipeline beach. Drive south on the Road 30 or King Fahd Road 40 towards Nuwaiseeb. Take ‘U’ turn opposite to Nuwaiseeb Fire station and turn first right. Straight road 270 takes you to the Al Zour village and Power station. Drive straight on Road 270 (11kms) to see the Gulf-bank on your right. Go ahead and take final U turn to reach near the Chevron Sports centre on your right. Park vehicle near brick red building and your heart goes knock-knock when you see the wavy haired white sandy beach and the greenish-blue water. Wear your swim jackets or float tubes while in water, especially for kids and those who are not trained in sea swimming. Quality ‘swimming aid vests’ are sold at Sultan centres. If weather is less than 380C, then you are on a fine setting with refreshing, iodine rich sea breeze.

From morning 8 am until 11, the sea is filled with sun light from the warm sunrays and is perfect timing for swimming as the underwater visibility is clear. Evening is good for games and fun. There are no shades to HIDE and is essential to carry your sun glasses, sun block creams, camp umbrella, bed sheets, swimming sandals and a first-aid box. Backpack with enough water, refreshments and please do not forget to clean the place when you are over. Area is patrolled by a Chevron security officer. But there may not be any beach guard, beach huts or comfort rooms. Recommended only to families who dare to look for a wonderful vantage beach. You cannot expect facilities available on a community beach like ‘Egaila’. Open eyes under the water to enjoy the therapy.

We used to carry fresh water containers to wash us after the sea swim. Make the group with at least 3 to 4 families for fun and safety. Preferably, refresh before reaching the beach at the fast food centres on the Road 40 at Hardees/Mc. We owe a sense of gratitude to Chevron for maintaining this place as a pleasing private spot and permitting visitors . On spring season, birds flock to the beach feeding on the algae lines, wading side by side. Build temples, sand castles and play Frisbees on this ‘hustle free’ beach. Collect the sea treasures on the shores and take home as your memento. We were once cheered by a ‘school of shining fish’ playing around us, flat fishes with finger long beaks.

You will become familiar with this beach and will love the environment when you make frequent visits here. On return, if you wish to have a fresh water swim, Ahmadi Township has a nice swimming pool at the ‘Classical Resort’ opposite to DPS School and on the back side road of Sultan centre. Pool fee is 1kd/person/hour. Relax with fresh juices on the pool side and it has a dress change facility too. Beware that the Pool depth increases gradually up to 10 feet. The pool is open until mid-night. Mr. Thomas, an Indian staff will help you there and we know him for years. He regulates the local kids, if they are swimming too. ‘Take care’ using sun screens! Enjoy!!! .....

Dear Friends,

I have been visting this beach line for past 2 years, really awesome beach and good place for fishing too. I have only one thing to say just as Ashad said "PLEASE PLEASE, Clean up the place before you leave". Others might not do it, we can't help it. But when we visit, make it a point that it's our responsibility to keep it clean, as we would like to coming back to a clean beach again. Please... :)

Thank you Mr Ganesan. I really want feedbacks. Your highlight will help viewers. When you drive on Road 40, plz keep an eye on your rear and side view mirrors and scan every 3 min.

Cars are normally very fast on this straight road. The 'ALFA' orange signboard Petrol bank will be on your left view when you get close to approach Nuwaiseeb Fire station.

After reading this I went last evening to explore. Thanks to the author of this article. The first thing I looked for was a rest room. Especially for the better halfs. The nearby mosque has rest rooms for both gents and ladies separately. As most of us would find it difficult to go to a place where there are no rest rooms, I share this information.

No permission reqd. But if denied, move to adjacent places on the beach. Bachelors / Families definitely have to behave well respecting the Privacy of others.

Keep your Wallet / Cameras in safe custody. Explore Al-Zour area & Enjoy. You will gain confidence when you visit more than twice.

BBQ is not permitted. Chevron the environment friendly company maintains this place superbly. But pack food and rejoice on the sands.

Your BBQ quest will be answered in my next article.

Beach owner is chevron company. Normally they permit families to use only the beach facility. Kuwaitis, Westeners, Expats & Fishing Anglers all come here on Fridays. There is no fee; the security will be watching us. As Mr Jo Pe said "sep / oct" will be good.

Crowd will slowly build up after Namaz time.

Route:- Drive on Fah.exp.30 towards MinaAbdulla Refinery straight. After MAB see McDonalds on left side. This a 'fork point' where 40 road meets 30. From here, is appr. 35 kms to spot.

Swim coach:- better @ Al-Sahel sports club, Abu Halifa which has Heated pool.(water temperature should be maintained for Kids)

Other places:- IIK will release another thrilling Family destination shortly. Thnx.

Exciting practical write up with lots of concern and information for the expatriate residence of Kuwait. Specially the wording "do not forget to clean the place when you are over" gives serious responsibility too. Make sure to keep the nature clean.

You will see a well lit outdoor scene. I wud call this place as "Kuwait Riviera" and the water is as good as ‘Golf-club Jabel-Ali beach’ of Dubai. Rich Kuwaiti villas on the shores have left no space at this beach. Depth is less and flat near shore. Don't go deep. Restaurants are at Al-Zour village. Not many know this apple place. It's just opposite of Al-Zour Fire station. But wind back to your Home, sweet Home at 6 PM.

A plain fact is, this is a guide for swimming lovers. I use to swim in Classic park, Ahmadi regularly. But after viewing this, i am on my wheels to Al Zour in coming week ends. Next week expecting 'temperature drops'.

There is a popular impression among the indian expat community that Kuwait does not have any natural resorts to enjoy our weekends and holidays. We have only been frequenting shopping malls where everything is man made and artificial.

This article opens up a new possibility of connecting with nature and enjoying the weekends with our family. That too on minimum expenditure.
