Nissan Patrol vs Toyota Prado

posted by Anz

Automobiles experts please advise on the pros and cons about Nissan Patrol & Toyota Prado. I'm planning to buy either of those 3-4 years old. I have driven both & driving comfort and performance wise Nissan Patrol appears to be far superior. Nevertheless concerned about resale value & maintenance costs

Buy Prado, the best. Patrol is too expensive.

I haven't seen any Indian driving patrol although it's a good vehicle. General Indian perception is not to buy any expensive vehicles. But if you can afford go for Patrol.

Why are you recommending Prado? pls explain the reason behind it.

Nissan Patrol maintenance cost is very expensive, because it is full size SUV. Also mileage is less. Prado is midsize SUV, so expense is less. It's not apple to apple comparison. You should compare Patrol with Landcruiser. And Prado with Pathfinder. In midsize segment Prado is the best. Patrol is the KING of large SUV segment, even Landcruiser is not near to it's performance and comfort.

Go for Nissan big size SUV. Cant compare to Prado. The only concern is parking space. If you have dedicated parking and you are staying out of abbassiya straight away go for PATROL. Live your Life.

Power & performance: Nissan Patrol

Fuel efficiency (comparatively), resale & maintenance friendly (comparatively): Prado (6 cyl)

There are Two Versions of the Nissan Patrol
1.Nissan Patrol (Available in V6 and V8)
2.Nissan Patrol Safari (Available in V6 Only)

Nissan Patrol equivalent is the Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol Safari Equivalent would be the Toyota Prado.

Price wise the Nissan Patrol is expensive: 20,000 KWD and above
Price wise the Nissan Patrol Safari is slightly cheaper: 10-15,000 KWD

With respect to spare parts, yes Nissan parts and comparatively expensive than Toyota but if you are buying a new car this shouldn't matter as you will not have to change anything during the initial years of usage.

If you are planning to buy a used car then have it checked properly to ensure you do not end up changing many parts

With respect to service, the costs are similar to Toyota.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

@NMK, I was considering Patrol & Prado, both 2013 Models. Price difference is merely 1000KD. Prado around 6000 while Patrol 7000+. Forget about IIK classified price for Prado, insane price here :)

I am still confused which one offers more value for money.

Don't buy any car as the situation is not stable. Instead follow Abdul Rehman advise to keep money in post office. You can follow other people advise too such as feed poor, donate money etc. etc.

Bus, seems you are Abdul Rahman. If you keep the money in post office deposit, will you carry it to your grave? :)

I have used both the cars.Toyota prado V6 txl 2010 for 4 years and nissan patrol V8 2013 Se for 2 years. Here are my observations.
Fuel economy mixed running-
Patrol-4 to 5 kmpl.
Prado-5 to 7 kmpl.
Comfort, looks, respect in the road-Patrol is far far ahead of prado.
Maintenance and reliabilty-Both vehicles are super reliable, spare parts are almost equal except few parts.
Resale value- Prado hold more resale value as indians prefer prado and dont want to take risks.
Personally I lost more money while selling prado than patrol.
You will have wait for a good buyer in case of patrol but prado can be sold in no time..
Any further doubts feel free to contact me on number is 99723985.

@ Sabin Baby
Your comparison is good for people looking for a new cars. For the second car market, it's all depending on the "misuse" of the earlier users, in addition to your comparisons. For people living in Abbassiya carrying a big car is a headache. Moreover, the personality of the car holder; you pay more and others think that you are a driver of a Kuwaiti...

In view of the above concerns Prado would be the better option for an average Hindi (Indian)

@ Sabin Baby,

Really appreciated for your valuable inputs. Surprised to know that maintenance cost is almost same for both!

@Sajo-I have used only preowned cars till date..You have to search for good cars, and spend time and must get it checked thoroughly.Parking and other related issues are the buyers headache.I just gave a clear picture of both the cars,as I used both before. And I stay in abbasiya, never faced a difference using a prado or patrol.

Strongley recommends Land Cruiser if you can afford. Although it is over priced it is worth compared to Patrol. Value depreciation is very minimal with Land cruiser, it's the favourite vehicle of locals so easy to sell it with good price.
