Ramadan - The Month of blessings

Posted on 5/1/2019

Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, self-discipline, communal spirit, etc. During Ramadan, Muslims ask Allah for the forgiveness of their sins, and to pardon them for their short comings. Ramadan is the month in which Quran was revealed to Mohammad (May Blessings and Mercy of Allah be upon him) through the noble angel Jibreel on the night of 27 Ramadan – ‘’THE NIGHT OF POWER” (Laylatu-Al-Qadar).People begin their fast at dawn, before the sun rises and is known as Suhur. At the sunset prayer, people gather in their homes or mosques to break their fast with a meal called Iftar that is often shared with friends and extended family. The Iftar usually begins with dates, as was the custom of Muhammad (May Blessings and Mercy of Allah be upon him), or apricots and water or sweetened milk.

There are additional prayers offered at night called Tarawih prayers, preferably performed in congregation at the mosque. During these prayers the entire Quran is recited over the course of month of Ramadan.

Allah forgives the past sins of those who observe the Holy Month withfasting, prayer and faithful intention. Ramadan however, is less period of atonement than it is a time for Muslims to practice self-restraint, in keeping with Sawm. False words or bad words or deeds or intensions are as destructive of a past as is eating or drinking. In Kuwait, more and more number of people gather together through shared meals and others communal activities. This increases the love and integrity among the Muslim community and gives a feeling of brotherhood. Hence Ramadan leaves a message of Unity.‘’For a true Muslim, end of Ramadan is not ’the end’ but start of a new journey towards the Jannah’.”
