Lights! Camera! Action! A tribute to Indian Cinema

In every film since the beginning, we see drama, music and dance. We can watch them at home or in the theater. In India, we have every film industry in each state- like Bollywood from Maharashtra, Mollywood from Kerala, Tollywood from Andhra Pradesh, Kollywood from Tamil Nadu, and more. Let's explore and go back in time to the early 1910's when the first movie was filmed.

The first film in India is titled 'Raja Harishchandra' which was published on April 21st 1913. It was a silent film incorporating English and Marathi intertitles. This film was starred by Dadasaheb Phalke who is known as 'The father of Indian Cinema.' Let’s roll the celluloid and jump in.

Starting off with the movies in noir filter (1930-1970), we heard evergreen songs, beautiful dances, comedies, and the stories making it golden and memorable. Like 'Anarkali', ‘Neelakuyil’ and 'Son Konsari'. Moving on with the films in color (1970-2000), there are more dance genres like disco, Bharatnatyam, Kathak, and more. We also heard more melodious tunes like 'Malargale, Malargale' from 'Lovebirds'(1996), and 'Thumbi Vaa' from 'Olangal' (1982). In the present films (late 2000's-2020's) they have more quality. Some of the award-winning movies like 'RRR'(2022), 'Baahubali'(2015), 'Oppam' (2016), etc.

Everything we see from these films are so thrilling to watch. The graceful dancers tapping in rhythm, the melodies we sang in harmony and the comedy and drama being entertaining is what makes the film very beautiful. We thank the filming crew, the music producers, choreographers, and makeup artists for their hard work to make every movie successful. That’s a wrap.
