New Year Eve :- The Magic of New beginnings

New Year is one of the festivals which is celebrated by every religion. The entire world celebrates the New Year with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. New Year's Eve is celebrated by the end of 31st December of the year at 12 o’clock midnight and watches the beginning of 1st January.

On the occasion of new year, people across the world decide to change themselves by trying to act more responsible, achieve their goals and many more. While students aim to work harder and score better in their exams, adults focus on spending more time with their families, getting rid of harmful habits, etc. New Year's Eve is the special time to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new year. On the New Year day, everyone will congratulate each other, wear new clothes and remember their memories and achievements of the last year. Many people stare at the clock and wait for the clock to hit 12 o'clock and according to me what’s more exciting than staring at a clock at midnight waiting for it to strike twelve, and then hear people celebrating the arrival of the new year.

But we can't forget about the memories of the previous years for example in 2023 our world has achieved many achievements like India surpasses China as the world’s most populous country, Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon which was a huge success for India, India also launched Aditya L1 to research more about sun, which has made India prominent in space. India also takes charge of the G20, and hosted the Summit in New Delhi. Our world has also achieved great change in intelligence by developing many AI like Chat GPT, OpenAI playground, Jasper Chat, Botsonic, etc. Our world has also faced many hapless events like earthquakes in Turkey and Syria almost killed 19,000 and injured many people, Israel-Hamas War have almost killed above 20,000 palestinians and wounded almost 50,000 palestinians and Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh. But still apart from all these wars, 2023 was a year which gave us some beautiful memories and achievements and completely recovered the period of coronavirus.

In the world different countries celebrate New year in various different ways. For example in Spain they eat grapes in new year as they believe grapes are known as the symbol of hope for the coming months, In Italy they eat lentils because they believe lentils as the symbol of hope and in southern United States they eat black-eyed peas because they believe black-eyed peas as the symbol of success. Pork is also a favoured dish in the New Year for some countries such as Cuba, Hungary and Portugal as it is believed that pigs represent progress and prosperity. Rice pudding with an almond hidden inside it is served on New Year's Eve in many countries, including Sweden and Norway. It is said that whoever finds the almond will be blessed with 12 months of good fortune.

However the situation was slightly different when it was the COVID-19 pandemic. But there was not that much to be sad about because we celebrated new year with our phone's via video call. If anything the pandemic has taught, it is to adapt according to the prevailing circumstances. The new year is observed on different dates based on other calendars like Chinese New Year, the Islamic New Year, Tamil New Year (Puthandu), and the Jewish New Year are examples of new years which are celebrated on different dates. Almost all countries celebrate the new year on midnight December 31st 12:00 a.m.

The first idea that comes to our mind when hearing the term ‘new year’ is ‘new year resolution’. A new year resolution is like a pledge which a person makes to end an undesirable habit or set a personal and achievable aim. The new year symbolizes a fresh start and constantly teaches us to keep moving forward. The purpose of this festival is to reflect on what we did in the previous year, whether successful or failed, to learn from our mistakes, and to look forward to the future with new hope. At last I have a quote, Every year you make a resolution to change yourself. This year, make a resolution to be yourself.
