The Indian Dentists Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK) kickstarted the highly anticipated IDAK - KDD Sports Championship 2024 - 25 by conducting the first sports event of 2024, the Women's Throwball & Men's Volleyball tournament on Friday, 8th March. The event commenced with the introduction of the Sports Committee, headed by Dr.Eldho George and fellow committee members Dr. Renjith, Dr. Abraham, Dr. Anjana, Dr. Varsha and Dr. Sharon. Adding a fun twist to the inauguration was an energetic and colorful flashmob performed by the members of the Executive committee and members of the participating Sports teams, which was coordinated by Dr. Parvathy. It got the crowd pumped up and looking forward to a great game.
All the teams lined up with their captains at the helm, namely Dr. Joe Daniel and Dr. Jyothy V Kuriakose of the Blue Phoenixes, Dr. Rupesh and Dr. Ranjitha R S of the Red Raptors and Dr. Ashwin Sudhesh and Dr. Remya Mathew of the Green Dragons. Mr. Shyam, who was the referee for the event, explained the rules and regulations to the players and wished them luck.
At the referee's whistle, the qualifying games commenced for the Women's Throwball category. The matches followed a Round Robin pattern and the results were as follows: Red Raptors vs Blue Phoenixes (6 - 21), Blue Phoenixes vs Green Dragons (20 - 9), Green Dragons vs Red Raptors (20 - 17). The Blue Phoenixes faced the Green Dragons in a final match in a Best of 3 fashion, where the Blue Phoenixes came out on top with a score of (15 - 7, 15 - 8), with the Green Dragons being the First Runner up.
The Men's Volleyball matches took place in a similar fashion as all teams geared up and competed with great enthusiasm. The results of the qualifying matches were as follows : Blue Phoenixes vs Red Raptors (25-18), Blue Phoenixes vs Green Dragons (25-14), Green Dragons vs Red Raptors (25-14). Victory was conquered by the Green Dragons against Blue Phoenixes in a close finals finish (21 - 18, 21 - 15) with Blue Phoenixes being the First runner up.
Best player for Throwball was awarded to Dr. Jane of Blue Phoenixes and the best player for Volleyball was awarded to Dr. Christy of Green Dragons. The scoreboard was efficiently managed throughout by Dr. Aju, Dr. Vinod, Dr. Sudhin and Mr. Prajul. The children were also kept occupied with a Dartgame competition, ably managed and conducted with great enthusiasm by Dr. Anjana, Dr. Varsha and Dr. Sharon. The winners of the game were Shivam, Evelyn and Gonna.
The sports commentators for the day were Dr. Thomas, Dr. Pramod and Dr. Reeby who kept the audience and players thrilled and entertained from the start to the end of the event. Dr. Santhosh, Dr. Jijan, Dr. Shaheer and Dr. Gireesh were seen capturing all of the fun and exciting moments of the games.
A new and fun addition to the event was the introduction of The IDAK Cookie Company's food stalls which brought members together to showcase their culinary skills, serving a variety of lip-smacking food items and cuisines, which was a great hit and thoroughly relished by those present. The Food stalls were put up by Dr. Anju Samuel & team, Dr. Nikhila, Dr. Asheel, Dr. Anju Nair, Dr. Aseela, Dr. Aysha, Dr. Shaikhan, Dr. Sharon, Dr. Ashwin and Dr. Revathi.
The event concluded with the felicitation of the winners and runners- up of the games. KDD Assistant Manager Mr. Bilu Cherian was the Chief Guest and handed over the winners trophy. This was followed by an IDAK group photograph by Dr.Jijan.
