To every citizen who calls himself a ‘proud’ Indian,
"If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India." So said German Scholar Max Muller. Here is a country which has Invented the number system, which had in it the first ever university in the world and the first ever medical school, which was the birth place to great technological inventions like the dams and all of this, within a land so full of purity, culture and rich traditions. The strongest in the world tried getting their hands on us, but we fought, burning every hand that ever tried to keep their hands on us. The question, however is, Can this country, despite all it’s problems; rise above to being called a ‘super-power’? The answer, which one can’t disagree with, is ‘Why not?’
Although modern images of India often show poverty and lack of development, India is busy preparing itself for answering every question that points fingers at it’s progress. Agreed, we still have slums which are increasing in terms of number and we still have people with such meager money, or no money rather, that they choose death as an option against fighting their sorry state of extreme poverty and helplessness, but we, on the other side, do have a system strong enough to keep us floating as the rest of the world is struggling by drowning deep down. However, we must, more importantly, make an analysis as to what is keeping us from reaching that goal of ours. We have quite a number of problems to throw light on and address carefully, some of them being illiteracy, Unemployment, Huge population, improper political governing, agricultural development, corruption and many more. In simple terms, we cannot expect us to get to the top as far as greedy and filthy governing methods continue to pull us downwards and fill the pockets of those who are least interested in the progress of our country.
With a GDP growth rate of 6.5 %, the country is sure to reach somewhere high. But on the other hand, with 7000000 crores rupees in the Swiss bank, the country is sure to fall down miserably as well.
As Gilbert K Chesterton quoted, “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” Let us educate our population and one could bet that we shall then see the eradication of poverty, naxalisms and many other banes. Education is the strongest tool India has to use to get’s it’s progress in the right path for this is one tool our country wouldn’t have a very big problem using. India has always been a country wherein the society has been giving top priority to educating themselves.
Hoping to see a smile on every Indian’s face, irrespective of what they are, hoping to see a much more educated, healthy and united India, hoping to see a country so strong to overcome any problem that may have the potential to break society into fragments, hoping to call my country a ‘super-power’.
