The second half of the program was conducted by Dr Binumon: The Effective Communication Skills Seminar.

Dr V. Binumon, Principal of ICSK - Senior Branch, a multi-talented personality with a long list of educational degrees who has not left any milestone unturned conducted this seminar which was very useful and informative for the kids.

A brief introduction about Dr Binumon:

His achievements are tremendous, he possess many postgraduate degrees – M.Sc. in Zoology, M.Sc. in Psychology, M.A. in Political Science, M.A. Sociology, M.Ed., M.Phil. in Zoology, M.Phil. in Education, M.B.A. and to crown all Ph.D. in Education. Marvellous!

He started the seminar with these beautiful words written on the screen:

Once A Man Asked God: What Is The Meaning Of Life?

God Replied, Life Itself Has No Meaning, Life Is An Opportunity To Create A Meaning.

Starting with effective communication, he said the way to achieve success is by communication and by confidence.

What is communication? Communication means exchange of information.

He showed clippings of great people like Gandhiji, Obama, Abraham Lincoln etc. He stated leadership asks for effective communication.eg Martin Luther King was an efficient communicator. It was followed by the speech given by him on August 25th 1963.I have Dream…………………..

He explained effective communication requires two things:

1. Influence and 2. Inspiration.

During a communication, the Sender (message) and Receiver (media) are very important factors. This part was beautifully explained by a clipping showing how ants made a bridge to communicate and achieve their goal.

He also made it very clear that the first impression tends to be a lasting impression and you never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

This was supported by a clipping showing the marvellous speech delivered by our former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on the occasion of the Golden year celebration of the European constitution.

He further added communication is not about reading and writing alone and we must follow the SOFTEN Technique, which means:

S-Smile

O-Open

F- Forward Lean

T- Touch, Pat, Hand Shake

E- Eye Contact

N- Nodding

He also explained the mannerism to be followed while communicating in different situations. He added that body language is very important and messages are conveyed as

Words- 10%

Tone of voice-40%

Body language- 50%

He emphasised think well before you speak and follow the KISS technique while you speak i.e. Keep It Short And Sweet.

The last and very important message conveyed was use your sense organs and heart to learn.

1% Taste

1.5% Touch

3.5% Smell

7% Heart

87% Sight

See – Hear- Do was the highlight of the day .i.e. when you’re seeing or learning, see the matter, read it out loud as you will hear it and it will help you achieve success.

His session was very interesting, innovative, impressive and convincing. He was awarded a token of appreciation by the IIK team for his marvellous rendering and educating seminar.

The program came to an end with the honouring ceremony of the young reporters and contributors, who were awarded badges and were given gifts for their worthy achievements and contributions towards the IIK Young Reporter Program.

It was a glorious day which added another feather to the crown of IIK.

Hats off this enthusiastic team of IIK.
