Journey To The Sea

Hey Guys ...remember Jim Cameron’s 1989 ocean epic "The Abyss" - liquid breathing, submersible battles, Navy SEALs with HPNS and alien water tentacles. Oh my! What more could a diving movie have to offer and that's the reason, it's one of the all time favorite movies for the scuba divers and ocean lovers! BTW, have you guys ever thought of doing "SCUBA Diving" in Kuwait ? Do you know what is the meaning of SCUBA ? Well friends, today I am going to give a brief description of SCUBA. It stands for "Self-contained Breathing Apparatus".

Have you ever thought that our ancestors tried to take air/oxygen into the sea! Well one such civilization is of the Greeks. They tried many ways to take oxygen into the sea. One mentions a Greek Warrior who escaped from his Persian captors, then created havoc amongst the Persian fleet by cutting the ships loose while submerged and breathing through a hollow reed. This is one of the first references in the history of scuba to specific attempts at breathing underwater. The modern SCUBA and the one in 1990's didn't change much. SCUBA diving is one of the much loved fun sports (though are many other applications of SCUBA like marine biology, commercial, military etc) but there are some rules which have to be followed. If these rules are not followed then you might face some dangers.

I got to know SCUBA diving through a friend and got myself registered under Eric and De Anne Davis. They are running a professional diving institute under SDI in Kuwait. There are many organizations in the World who do teach SCUBA diving. One such organization is SDI which stands for SCUBA Diving International. It is the only organization in the world who teaches how to use "Dive Computers".

Dear folks we got to study a bit of oceanography, buoyancy, decompression sickness and effects of diseases. I even got to appear an examination for planning a dive. It is about when should the dive begins and surface intervals etc.

I had to do some practical sessions so that I can get adapted to the pressure in the sea. The most important rule is - Never Hold your breath.

Finally, on 5th September, 2012, I did my first dive. The dive experience was totally cool. It was so peaceful and happiness all over the sea. As I was swimming under the sea, I saw huge ship wreckage. The sight was amazing with a school of fish swimming swiftly around the wreckage. After one hour, we had to take the surface interval. It is very important to take to remove excess nitrogen from our body. I had to refill my body fluids during that time. Then our boat captain said to start second dive.

This time I planned to look for dolphins and other sea fishes. I had to be aware of sharp headed orchids. Then after the dive, we headed to the Port.

It was really an awesome experience ! I can understand now what SDI President had written in the forward of our Scuba Diving Manual -" As divers, we see and do things few can even imagine (and fewer still experience). We discover the true nature of Planet Earth-the Water Planet-and how critical this precious resource is to our survival."

SEE YOU NEXT TIME ……………
