An influence of a good teacher can never be erased. The role of a teacher is to inspire, motivate, encourage, guide and educate students. Teachers serve many roles in our life – mother, friend, guide, advisor and so on. A teacher plays a crucial role in shaping the lives of students.

Teacher’s day aims to focus on appreciating the tireless and sincere effort of the teaching community. In India 5 th September is celebrated as teacher’s day. It is the Birthday of our former president, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a renowned scholar, recipient of Bharat Ratna and above all a great teacher. It was his wish that his birthday to be celebrated as teacher’s day.

It is an important day in the lives of students as well as teachers. Students take this opportunity to thank and appreciate the efforts put in by their teachers. Various celebrations are held in schools throughout India to recognize and congratulate the contributions of teachers. Students prepare greeting cards and present gifts to their teachers on this day. It is a special day for the teachers as their efforts are recognized and honoured by their students.

In this pandemic situation the role of a teacher has become more exciting and challenging. The teaching process has changed from school classroom to virtual classroom. They take great efforts to make the classes more interactive and interesting.

I take this opportunity to thank my teachers for their dedicated work and pray for their good health.
