The country of Kuwait and the Indians in Kuwait got a rare opportunity to see two great Indian Naval Ships INS Tarkash and INS Mysore as these two ships are on a goodwill visit to Kuwait to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. They are here from 10th to 13th of September and many Indians and Indian school students were granted permission to visit these wonderful naval ships during these 3 days.
I too got this rare and wonderful opportunity to see and visit these two ships with the help of Indians In Kuwait team and my school, Gulf Indian School. I am very grateful to them for giving me this rare opportunity. I would like to share what I learnt about these ships from my visit.
We went to see these ships on 12th September 2013 at 12 P.M. The ships were berthed at Shuwaikh port. It was mandatory for all the visitors to carry their original Civil Ids. The ships were anchored at the port and we were given a warm welcome by the naval officials who were smartly dressed in their uniforms .It gave me a lot of pride as these officers and the ships belonged to India. We were taken around the ships and were briefed about the interesting facts associated with these ships by the wonderful Naval officers .They were very patient and showed as every nook and corner of the ship. We spent one hour in the ship.
INS Mysore can accommodate 450 people inside the ship. In the picture you can see the radar on top that is used for all major gun operations, launching missiles and navigations. The missiles are reloaded from outside but all the controlling operations are done from inside the ship. The anchors are also automatically activated in case of an emergency in the middle of the sea.
After their visit in Kuwait the Indian Naval ships INS Mysore and INS Tarkash will be visiting Dubai and Oman.
It was a wonderful experience interacting with these handsome naval officers.

INS Tarkash
Tarkash belongs to the Talwar class of guided missile frigates. It is the second of the three frigates built in Russia. The main difference between Tarkash and the earlier Talwar-class ships is the use of BrahMos missiles in place of the Klub-N missiles.
Tarkash was launched on 23rd June 2010 at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia. The sea trials were successfully completed in the month of August 2012. On 9th November 2012, INS Tarkash was handed over to the Indian Navy by Yantar Shipyard.
The ship will join the Western Fleet of the Indian Navy by December end, this year.
INS Mysore
INS Mysore is a Delhi-class guided-missile destroyer currently in active service with the Indian Navy. INS Mysore was built at Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai. Her keel was laid down in February 1991 and she was launched on 4th June 1993.
She was commissioned on 2nd June, 1999 by then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Her first CO was Captain Rajiv Dhamdhere.
Her crest features a double-headed eagle from the sigil of the erstwhile House of Wodeyar of Mysore.
